Xp sound problem

I have a strange problem on a 3year old siemens laptop.when I play a movie I can hear all the background sound but none of the dialogue.I reinstalled Xp SP2 thinking it might be corrupt but it is doing the same.Can anyone give me some advise on this.

Have you tried other videos - is the result the same?

Try uninstalling your audio drivers, reboot, install audio drivers. See if that helps.

It could be due to an AC3 codec that uses a surround sound setup, in which case only the 1st 2 channels are sent to your speakers.
