XP Taskbar Balloons

My taskbar balloons have stopped popping up with notifications, i hear the little pop sound but nothing pops up, anyone know how to fix this?

Here is what my laptop has been through in the last week to get me here:
1) Infected with Baca Bro virus
2) Got rid of virus after a lot of time & effort
3) Ran auto patcher
4) Deleted userinit from the registry by mistake which meant i couldnt log on
5) Used "BartPE" to access registry without logging on to restore string value
6) Noticed lack of balloons (might have been before the last couple steps though)
7) Laptop ran ok for 2 days then started running really slowly, ran lotsa scans & spyware checks & couldnt find anything
8) Repaired XP from disc, machine is running perfectly now except the balloons are still not showing

To disable all balloon tips like this, forever, edit this key:

Create a new DWORD value, name it EnableBalloonTips, and set the value at 0 (or if it's already there and set to 1, change it to 0).

Courtesy of another international forum. Set your value to 1 since you want them to pop up.

Thanks, i also just found that page, mine is set to 0. I'm a little hesitant to change things in the registry again but i spose this seems harmless, will give it a go

Try setting it to 0, save and exit. Then change it back to 1. Otherwise, not sure.

ah my pc does the same some times. makes me wonder whats up. Set mine to one, will check it does so.

solved, it works if you change it to 1, computer will just need a restart for it to take effect
