XP then Gentoo?!?

Eish, for a noob you are going to go grey or pull your hair out with gentoo.

I wonder how long things are going to take compiling on a Atom processor.

Good luck though, I can see this thread is going to get interesting :D

Good luck starting with Gentoo as your first distro. Who needs to walk first when you can fly ;)

Ok, well, I am struggling.
I'm trying to follow the hand book, but it's not helping me.

The one thing that bugs me is when booting, it gets to "Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -448289188 ns) and hangs for a long time.

Gentoo eventually says it's seems to hang, check your BIOS - but what must I look for in the BIOS eh?

Any ideas?

now I'm just pissed off, I can't get passed creating the partitions.

I created them, exactly according to the freaking handbook.

But then I try create the file systems... it wont work.

Next thing I know, all my partitions are gone!

gdiza, what are you hoping to accomplish by installing gentoo? You can tell by the comments in this thread that you are embarking on quite a tedious task, I just hope that the PT you are putting into this operation that you are finding something beneficial both personally and professionally.

You and me both!

Okay!

I've decided to try another path.
I'm using Virtual Box and I've started on that (not on the laptop anymore) and low and behold, the damn thing has a GUI!!! :D

Another option is to get hold of someone that knows gentoo and let them sit through an install with you. Kinda like holding your hand and explaining things as you go along.

or use another easier destro and learn and get experience with the commands and how **** actually works. theres no shortcut in linux.

if you are using the SystemRescue LiveCD, use gparted to create the partitions.
