I've been keen to check the new XP (Virtual) Compatibilty Mode in Win7 RC. One business program that absolutely couldn't run under Vista was Quickbooks 2003 Pro (multi-currency), nor indeed could it run in previous Win7 beta builds. QB2003 could not run under Vista because the Intuit programmers flagrantly ignored Win programmimng guidelines by using the registry as a data and transaction store, as explained in this article, and Vista's security features finally prohibited this use of the registry, thus locking out QB2003.
Well, QB2003 installs and runs under Win7 RC without a hitch. This is a very impressive accomplishment by the Win7 dev team.
I don't have any other XP-only programs to check out under Win7 RC.
Anybody else had a chance to fiddle with the new virtualised XP compatibilty environment in Win7 RC? It's a seamless integration into the Win7 desktop, with full folder sharing, etc. A sort of built-in seamless XP virtual machine. So far I'm astounded.
