XP VS Linux?

Not sure is VMware Workstation is frozen

ubuntu is stuck on 100% "loading Linux Kernel"

I've rebooted the machine over the weekend and still nothing positive came out of the exercise.

If you wanna play games get linux and use the money you would have waisted on Vista and get a decent console like the xbox360.

please let me know which console costs 1k?

also console games are like 500-700 bucks a shot pc games are half this price

what console goes for 1k or even 2k again?

what is injecting wifi packets? what does this actually do? would 90% of ppl need this feature?

I think he was referring to a Vista gaming rig...

2k - ps2/nintendo wii

and as for wifi packets - network security , pen testing etc, doesnt do well under windows for security testing.

If you're going to be using Vista then you'd need a decent DX10 card to make the most of it. And a couple of gigs RAM.

Total cost > X360 cost (core or premium). And you don't have the luxury of popping in a disc and playing from your couch. Or inviting a few mates over for some multiplayer fun. And I've yet to see a 360 game costing R700 :/

i have no idea what you mean?

yea i suppose a console is not a bad option

still i dont get why linux is better than xp or vista

i mean if you pirate vista xp etc and you get linux they both free :)

high dude 2 gig memory is around 500 bucks new 8800gt is 2.3k thats 2.9k for a vista rig

maybe an xbox is cheaper i dunno

ok between 500-600 bucks http://www.btgames.co.za/btgames/infoPages/03736.asp?IndexNo=12

pc games go between 250-350, quite expensive to own an xbox if you ask me

i could get 2 pc games for the price of one xbox game

Perhaps your ISO is corrupt as I had that problem with one of the local mirrors. I would check the MD5 to make sure if I were you. You can also download ready running Ubuntu VM's.

Or you can have a look at the other VMware appliances on the site.

It all depends what one needs from an OS. I refuse to pirate any software so your second option is out of the question. Licensing is a problem for me as I run VM's which MS requires activations every time there is an update to the VM memory etc.

For gamers, XP is better or even a 360/PS3 if you are happy to pay the high game prices. For someone doing normal office work or internet browsing and email, Linux more then holds it's own.

also, and apologies if this is obvious, but make sure you told VMWare the correct OS when you start the process.

I don't pirate, so for me there is a price difference, though that is besides the point.

killa, it's what you use your computer for. You're a gamer and so of course xp / vista is preferable for you. For what I need my computers to do, I prefer linux.

so saying linux is good for day to day business and home use is correct?

windows is good for day to day business and home plus gaming video encoding basically everything u need to do on a pc

is this statement not correct?

lets not look at money part of this arguement but the useability of the 2 os's

clearly windows costs money because of what it can do or is this not correct

i would rather pay for my vista ultimate 64 bit and be able to everything linux can do and some more :) but hey thats just me

Depends on how much you are willing to pay and depends on what kinda reliability you want.
