Hi Guys

I'm new to android i've seen a few sites that suggest the firmware is upgradeable but i don't really trust them. The only one that i kind of trust is gsmarena and it simply states the upgrade is planned. Unfortunately i can't do it via the SE software. Can anyone help an android newb? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I rooted my Xperia Arc S, unlocked the bootloader and manually installed ICS but then eventually replaced it with a custom rom which was a lot smoother and offered increased performance. The rom I'm using is Xperia Ultimate HD and it is a rom based on ICS but with some additional tweaks and mods.

Just head over to www.xda-developers.com and search for your device and you should find plenty of stuff and most threads have well explained steps and procedures to follow.

Thanks Franky. I've gone down the same route. I'm having trouble with loading the lupus kernel. I suppose persistence will pay off

Yeah it will, I messed up a few times before finally getting the hang of installing roms and kernels. Which custom rom are you using now?

I've downloaded the romantic you mentioned, upgraded the firmware but I'm still having issues with installing the kernel and wifi modules.

I just did this last night with a seemingly dead Arc S (having battery problems) - http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239
Anyone of you having trouble with your batteries? Battery went from 86% last night to 35% when I turned it on again this morning and down to 13% when I just turned it on right now :/
