Would there be any interest in starting a Local Xsan and Xserve Thread?

Definitely, although i doubt u are gonna find much in the form of participation.

Xsanity is probably the best place to discuss,

although cant hurt to discuss it, and its large amount of problems and headaches..

jsut to let ppl know, the promise raids are absolutely beautiful, prepare the drives in almost a quarter of the time, which is fantastic.

interested to hear about ppls san problems,

We have one of the XSAN qualified technicians in South Africa, I believe there are only 6 of them out there. I'll get him to jump on this forum to discuss Xsan?

He has done about 4 On Site and working installations of XSAN.

Eagerly awaiting XSAN 2 and Final Cut Server. :-)

Greetings, I believe you are talking about me....:D
six Xsan Admins ?.... sheesh used to be only two when i was around.

Oh Well, back to work!

hey, I know you had some issues with iCal server, won't you post your solution here?

yeah, it sucks and dont use it........ever ......

all my issues are sorted, and it kinda works, as long as u dont have published calendars, windows clients, or loads of calendar information, or events, or to do lists for that matter, or group calendars, or even invitation ical emails....

then its a great service.....oh and dont try use it in any kind of working environment, cause thats most def a fix for 10.5.3

That was tried. I think we really need to wait for a decent update from Apple.
Tiger Server was the same, nice features that were full off buggy issues (Remember Software update server when it first came out).
CalDav is a great open standard system, but i think it still needs much to be desired...

mozilla and lightning works, well kinda, if u can handle the numerous glitches, plus mozilla is kinda crap, i dont like it as a mail client, and i really dont like it as a clanedar programme, it also removes some of the features a calendar programme is supposed to have, like searching for free times between users, proper delegation etc.....

apple seriously need to integrate a bit better, although its microsofts crap pst format that is causing the headache, but they are not gonna change....because they dont need to

Hey peeps,

Just a reminder that the Final Cut Server, Xsan 2 and Promise RAID Events are just around the corner... I know there are a couple of us from these forums that will be there, and it'd actually be cool to you meet you all as well... these are free so there's no excuse! :)

Promise RAID Firmware

Hi

Question: I've heard rumors that Promise RAID boxes need a special firmware flash, either on the controllers or drives that make them work in a Apple environment if you purchase them from Core which is why you cannot import a RAID Promise from overseas and implement them for your XSAN?

Am I hearing a rumor, is this true?

Apple configure the RAIDs before they send them to Core. They run a different firmware to the RAIDs you get directly from PROMISE and I haven't heard of anyone doing this firmware upgrade themselves...

yeah it seems to be true, they do come with their own "special" firmware, oddly though there would be no visible distinction between the normal promise and the apple one...which kinda sucks, a bit of branding or something would be welcome...
