I have recently bought XTC audio sound for my car (brand new boxed)
It consists of:
1 x 12inch XTC 1600w svc hooka series SUB
1 x 2900w 4channel amp (hooka series)
1 x preamp

I was told that the Amp carries a 1 year warranty.

After receiving the sound i had it all installed except the preamp. Installation was done by a professional.

For a weekend it worked fine.

Monday morning i try and there is no sound coming from the Sub......I check the amp and the light on it was RED....

I phone the guy who i bought it from, he tells me to contact the dealer in Durban (Gary)
I call him and he says he will pick up.....he picks it up the next week......

I get a call from him telling me that the amp is Water damaged!!!! WTF???
First of all my boot doesn't open as the locking mechanism broke and my car has no rust or any holes and nothing is kept in the boot as it doesn't open (to install the sound they had to remove the seats) so how the hell can it be water damaged???

anyway he tells me it will cost R100 to fix(as water damage isn't covered) and if i don't pay for it i won't get the amp sorted out......after much anger i pay the R100 just to get my amp back, even though it was no fault of mine.

Take the amp to get installed this weekend and guess what?? IT DOESN'T WORK!!!

I have had it with this useless company!

Any idea on how i can get this resolved?

Calling Gary later today to give him a piece of my mind!

a waterdamaged amp?.. after a weekend? (did it rain that weekend?)... sounds fishy to say the least.

Plus it would cost MUCH more than R100 to fix a water damaged amp.

R100 to fix a 'water damaged' amp? No way.. Theres something fishy going on here, I suggest you take it up with the headoffice of XTC
Tel: (016) 422 2520

What he said.

"water damage" would be a lot more damage than just a mere R 100. Probably a fuse that popped or the amp has no problem at all and something else is at fault.

No, the fuses are fine! It did not rain on that weekend just by the way

Then they're talking crap.... and tell them that they're talking crap and that they better fix it for free or you will start going to the press, and the SCC (if you can) etc etc etc...

Put the fear of the legal system and pisspoor press coverage into them.

Small claims court is all I have to say to this issue. After receiving the summons I'd be surprised if they don't settle before the court appearance. Take pictures, keep all paper work. Make sure you have them sign whenever they take the amp from your possession for example, they may try to damage it. Otherwise you'll most likely win and they'll be ordered to pay (including the legal expenses which are about R500 give or take).

Btw. it might not be the amp but the installation that is at fault. Doubt the whole water damage thing but XTC audio isn't know for their quality, it's entirely possible the amp was loaded at close to it's "official specifications" (which I highly doubt it can meet) causing the amp to crap out. It's also possible the amp was installed incorrectly (IE. 1ohm load on a amp that is only 2ohm stable, etc.). You sure that installer is reputable? Are you sure he didn't give a water damaged amp, water damaged it, etc.?
