XTRAView and SD PVR

Thanks again IRG :) I wil look for that mod thing :) I LOVE NOT leaving things the way they are hahaha ask my wife!!

I did a search for PVR MOD and it gives me an error that the search string is too short... grrrr

is there maybe a nice tut somewhere for newbies that does not know much of tv dstv equipment on how to setup xtraview? I have an sd pvr and the normal 1110 that I want to link with xtraview but dont wanna pay an overpriced installation if I can do it myself.

You can't XtraView those two decoders... SD PVR can only be setup for XtraView with an HD PVR.

damn, thought I didn't see that option available in the xtraview manual :( guess about time we get the hd pvr. Btw with the hdpvr can you still watch 2 different channels and record one like with the sd pvr and have your xtra view setup?

Ok I have hit a brick wall. Have sdpvr and hdpvr p2. All connected. The heartbeat is "IN" on hd and "OUT"(TV1/TV2) on SD as per manual and onscreen info AND DSTV rep. The heartbeat cable is also feeding the TVs around the house via RF coax and 42" on HDMI. The heartbeat is joined with splinters to 2 tvs upstairs and 2 downstairs. I am battling with the heartbeat signal and sdpvr had a waiting message bouncing around the screen for HOURS. DSTV tell me to change my heartbeat cable. BUT considering all TVs are working via that cable and remotes can send commands to the PVRs via it could it still be the cable? And second, are splitters directional? I have spent almost 2 hours on my cell to DSTV. Possibly get rid of the new HD-PVR to recoup costs!!

I have pit together a QUICK diagram to try and show the layout. The Ceiling and floor are the SAME - wood so the cables gro right through which has shortened distances. Heartbeat/RF coax is about 6 meters long. If all else fails i have a spare 2x4 multiswitch which i will put down in the lounge, put the decoders together and link with a SHORT coax for heartbeat and then connect SD via RCA and the HD via HDMI so i can easily switch and check that there is a heartbeat. If this fails after about R300 worth of cell calls yesterday, cost of cable etc etc etc and the PVR i recon just get rid of the HDPVR cos I have lived without it anyway till now lol

Hang in there Mant1s! You may be able to get mine at a good price LOL - literally 3 days old!!!!

Hey Quantum, Just some further info, i have tried using out/out on both decoders with and without eyelink on. SO all possible combinations between 15:00 and 22:45 less an hour for supper and the news. Strange thing is when i activated XTRAView (still active) it said waiting for comms and the DSTV rep was waiting for the pin. While i was waiting I went to the xtraview menu and it flashed the pin and i gave this to the rep and it was accepted. So SOMEHOW the SD PVR got the pin.

Anyway, I am sure i haven't missed any info to give. Thanks again. oh and btw - i didn't make any "DC block" lol

The splitters are your problem. They are not letting the heartbeat through. We had loads of problems when XtraView started (we still do), and being one of the suppliers to the trade, we had to find ways around them. Personally, I would keep the 2 decoders together, unless there are only two screens. Downstairs must be your HD TV, so the obvious thing would be to move the SD and 2x4 switch downstairs. I would then put a T piece on the short heartbeat cable, with a DC block on the SD's side. The third ouput of the T-piece, must go to a powered 4-way SLx splitter (you will need to switch on the TV link on the HD PVR). From the outputs of the 4-way, run a cable to every screen. You can then put TV links at all screens and DC blocks on the line if there is no TV link at the screen. This way you can have full control and viewing of both decoders, at all screens.

The details of this option is under installation 4B in the XtraView manual. All the parts are available at Space Television...

We are working on something that will make XtraView a lot simpler to install.

Hey Quantum

MANY Thanks for that. I thought as much re the splitters as per my question if the splitters were directional LOL but again i would have had to test. Thanks for giving me some info. I will get more "stuff" this afternoon i.e. T and joins for the cables upstairs when i remove the cables going into the 2x4 there. Then the only pain left is where to put the remote blaster. Also, I won't get a gap to get a a space tv store for a few days so i guess it would also be ok to put the eyelink in line at the SD RF out - obviously getting the relevant plug so that it can run inline even if it isn't being used. Lucky i bought 100m of cable LOL 60 odd% shield.

Hey Quantum
Right, i have basically rewired the house now. I have permanently moved the SDPVR downstairs and so have the 2 PVRs linked and one above the other (not on top of each other) on the stand. I have removed all splitters and added T-pieces (F connector type). I also added a DC block (F type) in line from the SD PVR to the HD PVR to the heartbeat cable is split with a T piece and the DC block is connected between the SDPVR and the T so that it covers everything after it. I have the whole setup working now and XTRAView is active. I am using the XTRAview in RF-OUT/RF-OUT mode.

I do have a feeling, though, that my HD PVR is faulty. it works fine except that the HDMI flickers BADLY and sounds "POPs". I have shut of power to everything and tried to get the HDMI to sync again but then still bad. Sometimes it settles and we can watch but get "sparkles" across the screen from time to time. the software/firmware is updated on it. I am currently using the RCA connection to use the HDPVR. Also i have noticed if i tune the HD in on a RF channel it is not as clear as the SD pvr signal and then on a TV right above it.

Perhaps I should take the HDPVR in and get it replaced?

Thanks again for ALL the assistance.

Yeah. Sounds like the PVR might be faulty. If you're sure that it's not the HDMi cable or the screen... What does the RF look like in the furthest rooms?

I changed the hdmi cable with a better one and then tested with the original and another from the media player. Does the same thing. Space didn't have a booster so I'll get one Thursday. All tvs can view SD channels but not the hd rf signal it seems way too weak.

The HDPVR's (especially Pace 4 tuner) RF outputs are not great, so the SDPVR would be clearer over RF
Perhaps a power surge has damaged the HDMI port

With booster, do you mean the SLx4 amplified 4-way splitter? That should improve it...
