Simple question, I want to setup an Explora and the new low cost DStv HD decoders for Xtraview, each decoder in a separate room.

How do I connect them together?

I have a twin LNB currently. I need someone to explain which cables go where.

Thanks

Please check the thread started yesterday morning at 9.20 in this section. There is a diagram one of the users put up. My set-up however was with the decoders being in the same room i.e. side by side. But the cabling should be the same?

I used the multiswitch (called splitter in the diagram) that comes with the explora. It's very simple. You'll just need to run longer cables I would imagine :)

Hope it helps somewhat.

Thank you.

My secondary decoder will be a standard HD decoder, not an HD PVR.

How would that change the setup?

I'm really not sure hey. I'm guessing just a single LNB into the HD decoder? Since a dual/twin is to enable PVR capabilities (2nd LNB is for record, pause, play, rewind etc).

That drawing is... well... anyway... The Explora comes with a SatCR/Unicable multiswitch. The Explora only has 1 LNB input, which can be fed from output A on the supplied multiswitch. The 4U secondary HD decoder also has 1 input, which can be fed from output 1 of the Explora multiswitch.

So essentially there will be just the one input into the secondary decoder from the Unicable multiswitch and then also the heartbeat cable for a total of 2 cables? Correct?

Hopefully gonna have time to do this today.

Using a dual LNB, the 2 cables go into the multiswitch just like in the image above.

Then short coax cable from output A to the Explora (primary decoder).

Another cable runs from output 1 to the DStv HD decoder (secondary decoder).

One more cable linking the 2 decoders, the heart beat cable. Which one will be RF out and which will be RF in?

Anything else I'm missing?

Do I need to call DStv beforehand for anything?

When you active the system, call MC and have ready

Your ID number
The Explora's serial number
The Smart Card number

You need to be, or have handy, the person who is paying for the service

The RF in or out depends on what you have told the decoder for Xtraview settings

Hello,
installing my own Xtraview with Explora as primary and HD 4U as secondary.
my understanding is that besides the heartbeat cable between the 2 decoders, 4 cables need to run from the 4 Output ports 1-4 on the MultiSwitch to the primary decoder. So a total of 5 cables.
Any comments from qualified folks?

1 cable from Explora switch to Explora
4 cables from Explora switch to HD 4U
1 heartbeat cable between decoders

1 cable from Explora switch to Explora
4 cables from Explora switch to HD 4U
1 heartbeat cable between decoders

ok so the back panel of the HD 4U has:

1 - LNB in port
2 - RF IN port: Used for XtraView
3 - RF Out port: Used to connect the decoder to a non-HD TV or for XtraView

the Heartbeat cable is connected between the RF In/RF In or RF Out/RF Out of the two decoders depending on the settings in the Xtraview Menu.
one cable from the MultiSwitch Output ports 1-4 is connected to the LNB in port on the secondary decoder.
where do the other three remaining cables go?

I am using a twin LNB.

Sorry sorry my bad, I misread and thought you had the old 4 tuner UEC HDPVR which needs 4 cables
The 4U just needs a single cable from the switch to LNB in

I have the same problem. My LNB is Smart LNB 80cm Dish. Explora 101 in bedroom and HD 4U Decoder in Lounge. Do I need to install a heartbeat cable. Please help as DSTV call centre says I need to buy a new Decoder 2 or 3

I trust that the DStv HD decoder you mention is the 6S. The diagram I am posting is for a Quad LNB and explora 1 with multi switch and HD 5S/u combination but it will be the same for the 6S.The rwin LNB would onlt have two cable to the multi switch
You will also need to change the user bands used by the 6S to avoid conflicts in the frequencies used by the tuners of the decoders

With that set up you will need to run a heartbeat cable between the two decoders and change the Usebands on one pf the two decoder preferable the 4U
