XtraView Setup for DSTV Xplora2 and HD PVR 2P

Yes, cape town..
Update, on the second decoder I do get the correct DSTV channel banners when selecting all the other channels but also get this notification E19 - 4
''Your account may be in arrears...., This in not correct according to DSTV themselves..

I get this sequence of events -
launch installation wizard, press ok, Satellite IS20, Ok, Quick set up or manual set up, (''use quick set up to do a basic quick set up of up to three decoders''.., press Ok, Decoder 1, Decoder 2, decoder 3, I opt for decoder 2 and press Ok, when I tried to do this an hour ago it started scanning but went on for ages.. however when a few minutes ago I again selected OK for the Decoder 2 option, the following banner appears - ''this function cannot be performed as signal strength or signal quality is poor. Please ensure that your signal strength or quality % are high enough " We are currently been load shed although the Tv side of things is working off an inverter so doubt this is the reason for this banner.

I have not got onto the roof yet to change the primary decoder to the A port, as you suggested.

Not sure if it's my imagination, but the overall picture quality of the TV on the primary decoder is not quite as good as it was given all the changes...

The Explora decoders are very finicky about signal strength and quality. Is the 2P ON when you are making the changes?
Signal strength needs to be above 90% and quality value also.

I will find the settings so that you can try the manual settings yourself.

Yes Geoff it was on.

ok great thanks, I shied-away from Manual, as it warns ... only to be done by registered installers or something like that..

IF the decoders have not been working properly for a while, the E 19-4 error appears. It should self correct once the decoders are functioning. If not you will need to get MC to send a re-authorisation signal.

makes sense, as it has not been used for a year at least..

As always Geoff.D is a legend!

I am but a novice. Geoff here is a man of experience

My advice. Wait until you can switch the 2A onto port A. Then switch off all decoders. Turn on 2A alone (which will power the lnb proper). Now make sure the decoder is set to decoder 2 (or manually set the userbands to index 3, 4 and 5).

If you still have the box the SLNB came in you will find a pamphlet inside which lists user band index to frequencies. (Not required. Just informative)

As Geoff said, the decoders cant use the same bands and should not be powered at the same time until they are set to different bands. Then let 2P use default bands (0 and 1, or is it 1 and 2?) and the 2A bands 3 4 and 5. Its a good idea to check the 2P settings as well in case the installers changed them previously. Finding the user bands in the 2P can be a bit tricky. You have to highlight on of the network settings then click the white button to edit bands (no wizard... i think).

According to a friend of mine, the Exploras require you to first set the User bands to save, and then set the associated frequencies.
Decoder 2: Userbands are 5, 6, 7.
Decoder 3: Userbands are 3, 4, 8

Decoder 1: is reserved for compatibility with older decoders.
The user bands are 0, 1, 2, 3
The 2P only uses 0,1
The frequencies associated with each are: UB and then freq

0: 1210
1: 1420

2: 1680
3: 2040
4: 1006

5: 1057
6: 1108
7: 1159

8: 1261

If you go the manual route then you can choose any UBs provided they are not the same as the ones used by the 2P
So 3,4,5 will work fine.

Now run both decoders. Double check signal on all tuners on the info/status pages of both decoders. Ch 100 should work well on both without error. If the bands still clash you might see errors eventually (but not right away).

Check the heartbeat info pages as well. IF they received the correct instructions from MC via satellite then all is well. Else ask them to reauthorize as Geoff said. (I always thought the authorisation incl. XV setup is sent "continously" every 5 to 10 mins. I would just wait for it to update)

Yikes, this is getting complicated ! Many thanks for all this detailed info. Just trying to work out in the menu settings and how you select the various bands. Just an update when I turn things on this morning and get channel 100 which is playing fine, but then select another channel I get a E37 - 32 warning.. ?

I'm just getting help shortly to get back onto the roof to change the NLB ports.

IF I engage manual I get the following page, but I have not pressed scan yet, which seems a more automatic procedure rate than individual selecting ?

n 2020, the advice is to cancel your DStv subscription.
I hear you Neon, we don't watch much on DSTV, but our family really enjoy the Sport. If we can find away to watch the local Sport channels and also have the flexibility to record or pause things should we want to watch things on multiple channels and to stop our week ends ruled by Sport, I would gladly shaft DSTV and save about IK a month ! Any ideas most appreciated ?

Those UB and freqs are all correct.
What you must do is not try and set anything on the Explora with the 2P ON. Switch it off for the time being.
Get the Primary decoder working first. Even when connected to port B.
Set the satellite settings save them and then reboot and wait for the decoder to do its ritual dance, don't interrupt the process.
When it is back on the air, it should have sorted out the country error at least. You may have to reboot a second time to clear the E19 error. Then check all functionality including ability to record.
Then switch it OFF and do the same to the 2P. Let it complete ist reboot process and reboot to clear the E37 error. Once that is done, you will have eliminated any decoder interference.
Then switch on the Primary and chef!knit is transmitting HB.
The switch on the 2P and wait for it to complete the reboot. The only error it should now show is E19. And then you can choose to sit it out or contact MC to reauthorize service on that decoder.
It can take up to 48 hours to clear by itself seeing the decoder has been off for a long time.

Ok great, that's a relief !

''Now make sure the decoder is set to decoder 2 (or manually set the userbands to index 3, 4 and 5).''
Any more info on how I do this ? For starters... how do you set the decoder ?

The best is to use the defaults . The current settings are for decoder 2 settings so just leave them like that .
Get that decoder working first before bringing the 2P back up.

When you say get the 'decoder working first', I presume this to be the primary 2A ? This decoder is still working fine and having now swapped the NLB ports this morning.

So now switch OFF this decoder and get the 2P up and running first, receiving at least ch 100.
The switch on the Primary 2A and it to send HB to the secondary. Then see what error messages are left.
IF the E 19 - either wait up to 48 hours for it to clear by itself or get MC to re-authorise services on that decoder.
