Hi all

I just moved into a complex in CT where the dstv points are in the wall. There's 3 points in the lounge, 2 for the HD; the 3rd point is a 'Return' point (that's what the label next to it reads).

In the bedroom there's a point in the wall. However this looks like a normal tv aerial point.

I have 2 decoders, viz. the hdpvr2p and a 1131; each will be connected to a different tv in a different room. The hd decoder is currently connected to the 2 points in the lounge.

I've made my own cables and bought a splitter - Game in Canal Walk just had a 4way splitter. I've connected one cable from the 'RF In' of the HD decoder to the 'In' port of the splitter. Then I have another cable going from one of the 4 'Out' ports of the splitter to the 'RF Out' of the second decoder.

2 Questions:

1) Is the above mentioned setup correct up to that point?
2) How do I connect the cable from the lnb to the second decoder? I did see a cable that has the co-ax aerial on one end and the f connector on the other end. I'm thinking of buying that if someone can confirm that they've used it and it works. My idea was to use that in the bedroom after sending another cable from the splitter to the 'Return' port I mentioned above.

Has anyone successfully implemented this setup before?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You need to get a 2x4 multiswitch
Connect to LNB inputs on the wall to the 2 multiswitch inputs
2 multiswitch outputs to the HDPVR
2 multiswitch outputs to the 1131

Then connect RF out on one decoder to RF in on the other (doesnt matter which as long as the Xtraview settings match)
Connect the unused RF out of the splitter
Connect a splitter output to the other wall plug, I assume this go thru to the room
Connect the other splitter outputs to other rooms

The splitter will carry both decoder feeds

Dude I think you might've just solved it. I was looking at it all wrong. I was using a 1x4 splitter. Going to have to go find a 2x4.

So just to confirm:

I use the 2 inputs from the wall that I currently have going into the HDPVR to go into the 2 inputs of the new 2x4 splitter.
Then 2 of the 4 outputs go to the HDPVR
1 of the remaining 2 outputs goes to the 1131
RF in/out of the HDPVR to the RF out/in of the 1131
- This can be done directly from the last port of the splitter to the 1131 or from the splitter to the 3rd socket in the wall. Then in the room I just connect from that wall point to the 1131

Is that correct?

Make sure you get a 2x4 multiswitch, not a splitter
The RF port connections will work going thru the splitter you have, but not with the multiswitch. The spare port on it can't be used for anything else in your setup

Almost there. I got the multiswitch. Got the HD connected fine in the lounge. I at least have signal to the second decoder. I just need to call multichoice but I'm trying to test the heartbeat but nothing's happening. I eliminated the splitter completely for now.

I connected a cable from my RF in on the HD and RF out of the second decoder directly. On the HD decoder I got the com port set to RF In. On the second decoder it's set to RF out.

Any ideas why no heartbeat?

That's all correct. You won't have a heartbeat until DSTV activates it, they need to link the decoders on their system so that they will communicate & send heartbeat signals

Dude, I can't thank you enough. I couldnt find the answers anywhere else. Much appreciated dude and a huge huge thank you. Everything is sorted. I just have to neated up some cabling.
