Xtraview with new HD PVR P2

To all the experts here, I please need some advice:

I previously had the SD PVR installed with twin LNB in my living room and one additional cable to my son's room for xtraview and used wireless Ellies to control second TV and everything worked just fine.

Last week I purchased the new HD PVR P2 and had my SD PVR and smart card disconnected by Mutichoice as I don't want to deploy the SD PVR in my house at this stage since Multichoice explained I would then need to pay 2 x monthly subscriptions.

I connected all the cables to the HD PVR P2 but the TV in my son's room is not picking up any signal. (Not even the primary signal displayed in TV room)

Can anyone please tell me what I have done wrong since I thought by replacing cables from PVR into HD PVR2 everything will work. Any advice will be much appreciated.

You have been misinformed

Firstly Xtraview is when you link 2 decoders together, not simply sending a signal through the house
Secondly, you can link the HDPVR 2P & SDPVR together with Xtraview with no extra monthly cost

So I suggest you try that before sorting out issues with sending feeds to your son's room

Maybe I am using the wrong terminology here. My interpretation of Xtraview was that I could view different channels in my son's bedroom i.e. not watch Cartoon Network in the living room and in his bedroom but have Supersport in the living room while he watches Cartoon Network in his bedroom and have the ability to change channels in his bedroom without affecting my viewing. This all worked 100% with the old SD PVR and he could even record channels.

Since I have installed the new HD PVR P2 this no longer works as I am not getting any picture to his TV. Are you basically advising I should install the old SD PVR in his room (Smart card deactivated?)

I am confused as from my living room I only have 1 x RF cable running into his bedroom which basically connects directly into his TV's RF. Apart from the existing Ellies wireless system to allow remote control functionailty, there is nothing else installed.

I am hoping also that I have installed the new HD PVR correctly. Currently I have one cable from the LNB going into Satellite In 1 and the other cable into Satellite 2. The RF cable is connected to RF OUT and there is one spare connector on the STB called RF IN. Hope this makes sense

You are thinking of dual view
The SDPVR has view 2, record 1
The HDPVR 2P has view 1, record 1
So with just the HDPVR you can't watch 2 channels at the same time

If you connect the decoders together with Xtraview you will combine everything, so you can view 3 channels at a time & record 2 at a time
I suggest you read the Xtraview manual on the DSTV forums, that will show you how to set it up

I suggest you read the Xtraview manual on the DSTV forums, that will show you how to set it up

its very easy to do (you may just need to buy a ,multi switch (its about R500 at makro) and some cables, plug the 2 lnb cables into the multiswitch, and 4out of the multi switch (2 into hd pvr and 2 into sdpvr) and then link a 'heartbeat' cable between the 2 decoders (probaly rf in on both) call multichoice to set up and the plus side is you dont have to pay extra subscription and you will be ablae to watch 3 chanels and record 2 chanels all at the same time.
hell if you like you can put the sd pvr in your sons bedroom (if you dont mind having 3 cables going there)

Thank you all. I will start investigating all the above but it seems being able to watch 3 x channels and record another everyone in the house wins including the wife with watching the cooking channels!
