The stuff I have on me is something I thought long and hard about and wanted. Nothing wrong with it. Not trying to be cool or anything either. Don't know, always wanted some ink and decided to go get some. My grandad had so yea...

But why on your body? I mean, if you like the phrase, write it down on a piece of paper and frame it :D

What if your life philosophy changes in 10/20 years?

Well it hasn't changed in the past 20+ years so I doubt it will suddenly ;)

And that piece of paper and frame can be stolen/burnt/stolen/stolen/stolen etc... :)

It's not like I'm going to have a full back tattoo done of my face on it like Steve-O did. But yea...

Not into tatoos much either.

As for the ex, ignore, maybe she'll go away.

for once i agree with you.

my gf has one on her lower back, and it's sexy - but not for me thanx...hehe..

The thing is, you change every 7 years.

If I had a tattoo every 7 years, it would be:

7: He-man Tattoo
14: Pacman / Sub-Zero Tattoo
21: Skull Tattoo or something
28: <Not there yet> but probably something Tribal...

i'm glad I don't have tattoo's. :p

Absolutely.

Some people who were 'rebels' in their younger years are now the pillars of society and salt of the earth types and do not have that need to portray their "storm und drang" with a tattoo on their bodies anymore.

Miss Blu,

I think it all depends on the type of tattoo... I have a very mixed view on tattoos.

To me, its a form of art. It's a form of expressing your soul, just as others do through painting, poetry or lyrics. A friend of mine tattoo'd her mother's name on her in hebrew after she passed away - so that she would always be near and remembered. I have no issue with it. Another lad I knew, due to family connections, had the North American Cheyenne tribe's armband symbol tattood on his upper arm - complete with feathers, bracers and beads... it looked truly amazing - and rather mesmerizing.

On the flip side, I can't help but laugh at little image kids who get tattoos of dolphins, butterflies, the beckham-star and lizzards tattoo'd on public spots i.e. lower arms, lower back and ankles. Zero originality - and out of fashion in 3 yrs' time.

As long as it's truly meaningful as opposed to some catalogue picture, I'm fine with it.

Bearing in mind that what may be a "catalog picture" to you might be very meaningful to the person who has it.

Agreed. However... there's a fundamental difference between a cherished symbol that is similar in appearance to a cataloged picture and someone who walks in and says "give me #C-27 ... it looks bad ass."

Two of my friends have their entire upper arms and complete backs populated with tattoo markings, ranging from tribal designs to wings on the shoulders and icons on the lower back. Although the tribal design looks default, it forms part of a complex and quasi abstract design.

Again - this is on their upper arms and backs. Nothing is visible to the public when they wear the appropriate clothing.

It's nowhere near as shallow-minded as most of , as CathJ said, tramp stamps floating about. One of the funnier ones is when the cool surfer lads get crucifixes tattood on their hands/necks/whatnot... but not just normal ones - they must be funky looking. Not taking into account that the one they found on google imaging is in fact a pagan symbol and resembles nothing close to christianity. oops. But voicy, maybe he is a pagan. Sure - doesn't fit the normal crucifix around his neck though. Fail again.

If I were to ever get one to send a message, it would be a barcode on my wrist indicating that our unique-insignificance in the world where we are considered nothing but an expendable product to enrich the elite. It might piss off some of the jewish community though - which, as AcidRazor's Ex has a problem with it, my Ex is jewish ... so it'll fit nicely.

I agree with the "catalogue" statement, there was a fad a short while back where every second person was getting a Hot Stuff (that devil from the comics) tattoo. How original.

It's gotta be something you really want, and something meaningful to you. But theres's nothing wrong with having something that just looks good.

Ex's pop up here and there asking all sorts of strange sh|t. I just ignore them. I don't break up amicably. If it's over, I'm not gonna be friends, I don't want any contact. What's the point. Staying friends only serves to cause trouble somewhere down the line.
