Y7 2019 Google Assistant Routine

I'm trying to get my (Google clock) alarm to use a Assistant Routine.
So, I set the alarm I want, I set up the routine to 'Tell me about the weather', I tick it to save the routine.
The alarm goes off on time, but nothing else. The routine does not seem to run.

Any ideas?

Any luck with this yet? I havent played with routines yet but perhaps look at excluding the Google Assistant app from Huawei's battery optimization...

Nope. No luck. The alarm goes off, but no weather report, or anything else.
So, when it goes off, I swipe right to switch off alarm.
I have a friend with a Nokia running Android 9, & it works. I have v8.
