mofo, just inserted the disk and it downgraded me to 4.0.0, and now it wants a 2.2gig patch update, arrrg!!!! gonna take a day on my roobish 312k line. damn you blizzard..

Whahahahahaha! I was scared of that. Patch is busy running. I'mma go to bed. Stormwind flight point is the new Dalaran.

So let me get this straight, if you already have an updated copy of WoW do not insert the Cataclysm disk as it will downgrade you to a previous patch? How big is that patch to get Cataclysm running assuming you just punch in the cd-key on battle.net and do not put in the cd?
 
So what is the installation procedure ? If I have the CD ? Do I still need a patch after? or will I get downgraded and the need to upgrade again?
 
If you prepatched your client there is no reason to install anything from the Cataclysm disc. Don't think I'll even take the disc out of the box when I get mine.

Installing from the disc will downgrade you to an older version. And if it is the same as with WOTLK, it downloads the same patches as if you had WOTLK only, so in theory if you played over the past weekend, you already have the patches in your updates folder. Just re-run those. The patches for TBC/WOTLK/Cata arent different.
 
My client is fully updated. I inserted my disc, ran the exe and that's it. The launcher wanted to update a file of like 120MB, but that's all. Was playable after about 10 mins on 384 line.
 
i am just gonna activate my cd key on my acc then log in before i try and install anything from disk as i have all the pre patch's done
 
Yea gonna do the same here Chro. I played this morning without the Cata key, going to pick it up now from the shops. Sure it will work.
 
yeah mine and my wife's cd's are arriving in about 10 min on delivery so will try shortly

this. same story. read my book, then played for 2 hours. well, more like just flying about going ooooooo its soooo pretty :D
