It kinda tastes like green tea. Like that astringent taste with ummm woody notes? It's not bad but I like green tea.

But don’t you need one to have the full experience, they seem to take an age to drink a cup?

I knew an Argentinian guy that drank it and it wasn’t like a normal cup of tea where you made a cup, drank it in a few minutes and then done, he’d be drinking from that thing what seems like hours and topping it up at times with hot water.
