He has experience in the research and management of student affairs, having worked at UCT as a student development practitioner. Yershen held various leadership positions, including active involvement in establishing and developing ANC structures at UCT, serving as Secretary General of the Student Representative Council at UCT and a member of the University Senate Committee.
