I've just installed the new Smoothwall 3.0, and my new Billion 7300.

I must say, this edition of Smoothwall looks a LOT friendlier in most respects.

I think I've got everything wired up and configured correctly.

192.168.1.1 is the Router

The Smoothwall RED plugs into this with IP 192.168.1.2

...and Smoothwall GREEN, using the second firewall box card is IP 192.168.1.3

I've set the Router to use Relay (IP 192.168.1.3), and on Smoothwall, I've enabled DHCP IPs *.100 - *.199

The Interfaces tab in Smoothwall is set to use Gateway 192.168.1.1

All works alright...except...the Gateway assigned to my DHCP PCs is 192.168.1.3

Why? :( Any ideas how I go about fixing this?

Not sure what Relay is - I don't recognise the term from Smoothwall 2. Oh wait, you mean on the Billion? Like bridge mode? In this case the Smoothwall will probably need to create a PPPOE connection directly to the ADSL network, not via the router's IP address.

Looks all right to me. The smoothwall is an IP router itself, and can run DHCP server, so it allocates IP addresses to the PCs on its segment (their DHCP requests will not be forwarded to the Billion). So it pretty much has to be the gateway for downstream PCs.

And confusingly, the router is not a router any more if you've set it to bridge mode.

I'm assuming you can't get online? The problem is more likely to be in the smoothie's upstream connection - see my comments above.

The Smoothwall is currently the DHCP server, and does hand out the correct info minus the wrong Gateway.

Hence, no, I can't get online, but I can access LAN PCs.

Is there a specific setting in the Billion that says 'BRIDGE'? I didn't see one last night, but will go through it again tonight.

OK, so I'm going to:

1. 'Bridge' the Router, and leave it's IP as *.1
2. Set the RED to be a PPPoE connection, with logon details, etc.

...and this will correct the Gateway, hopefully. :)

But from what you said it hands out the right gateway address - Smoothwall GREEN 192.168.1.3. That's what it should be and has to be.
 
OK, that confuses me a little, but let me try tonights suggestions first. :)

I was under the impression that I needed the *.1 Router IP as my Gateway. :)
 
OK, I tried setting up the WAN as a Bridged PPPoE LLC, and then selected PPPoE for RED.

Added PPPoE and the user details under the PPP tab.

Sweet Fanny Adams. :(

Looks like I'll be calling my dad's IT admin in...I'm way too p!ssed at this thing at the moment to do anything but chuck it out of the window.

Depending on how ticked I am by the time I get Home, I'll give it another try tonight. ;)

Do I turn off DHCP complete, ie: no Relay either?

Port-forwarding and the like are next year's lesson. :D
