hi all i am new to this so hope you can help. i recently bought a 2gig mp4 player (make is YES)and i wanna put video onto it but the booklet is not very helpful.i need to convert normal dvd's to avi or wma format and have tried plenty of conversion programs but non seem to work. does anyone have this mp4 player or know which program will work. thanks all.

Most probably .mtv format

try to find a converter that can convert to .mtv
 
You can buy something like IMTOO DVD Ripper. Download the trial and see if it works for you. You could also use DVD Decrypter and then run AutoGK on that. Handbrake with
DVD Decrypter should also work. Once you rip your DVD to a format, you can use the free program SUPER to convert it to other weird formats.

Everything above, except for IMTOO's stuff is free.

most times paying for a program to rip media and change it other media is well the worth money

the frustration thats comes with free software is not the worth the 20-30 dolla price tag of a great program thats easy to use

On the Mac using MacTheRipper and then FFMpeg or
Handbrake all works quite smoothly. All of these are free.
I think you also get Windows versions of Handbrake and FFmpeg.
