So here is the story. Brand new 1Tb Seagate disk. 86 hours on the clock. Makes an occasional "click" every 15 or 20 minutes. System is Windows 7 pro.
System is stable. No errors. CrystalDisc reports no errors or cautions. All the Seatool short tests pass. Have not tried the long tests. Is it just the
head parking or did I get a bad drive? Can I send it back with no obvious errors on the drive aside from an occasional "click"? I think they'll tell me
to go screw myself. Ideas anyone?

Sounds like head parking from the drive being put to sleep every 20 mins. You can change this setting in the Windows power options.

I have already set that to "never". And after some timing I think the "click" is closer to 10 minutes maybe less.

Well, if all the tests pass through fine, you can use the drive without worry. I've done a bit of searching and those are the Seagate drives with the new 1TB platters. The head is parking itself as a power-saving measure, even though you may have set it to not sleep. Its a moot point anyway, since on a 1TB disk most of the stuff you're looking for should be at the beginning of the sectors so seek times won't be too high.

There's a difference between a 'click' that people refer to and the softer noise of head parking. If all SMART values check out then you shouldn't worry.
