So guys, my A4 has served me well but it's about to run out of its warranty(the wife put an insane amount of kilometers on it lately). The last service and repair bill was paid for by Audi but the amount was truly frighting(about R40 000) and the problem is still not really sorted out. So I'm going to jump ship sooner rather than later.

My budget is just under R125 000.

So far my options are;
  • Suzuki Swift GLS(about 50 000km but just about out of warranty)
  • Toyota Yaris T3+(high mileage, likely 70 000+)
  • Ford Fiesta(high mileage, just about to lose warranty)
  • Mazda 2(high mileage, likely 80 000+)

Thoughts, opinions and non sequitur please!

Do you have kids? If you do then you need to avoid the Swift which has about 20cm2 boot space.

Also look at a Getz. Since the i20 has come along prices on 2k8-2k9 models have dropped nicely.

No kids. I looked at a Swift this weekend and the boot seemed to be the same size as the Yaris. But it feels like more car for my cash if you know what I mean.

Getz, I dunno. They're all right but the others seem to be better for the same amount of cash. If my budget was a 100k or below then for sure.

I know everyone thinks its boring (and it isnt really), but you could get a 2007/8 Corolla for around that price. Comes with all the bells and whistles and still alot of car for that money. Reliability will not be a problem and the price wouldnt drop much more than it is now for a few years to come.

Other options:
1. Golf V Comfortline
2. Ford Focus
3. Honda Civic
4. RunX RSi
5. BMW E90 320i (just out of motorplan)

But I see you're in the market for a 'B'-Segment car, so Yaris/Polo is your best bet for the long term.

Could you really get recent models of the cars in your list for under R125k? Maybe 2k6 models.

Seems like its the Swift then.

I just can't see myself driving a Corolla. I drove a rental once and hated every moment of it. Just, no.

All of those will have similar potential repair price tags than my A4. Whether it be because of frequent break downs or parts and labour charges. I'm sure they'll all be great to drive, like my A4, but if I'm not covered by a warranty I'd rather not risk it.

Those two are, and I quote my insurance provider "high theft and hijacking risks" in my area. And having my previous Yaris taken from me at gunpoint I tend to agree with them. Granted I'll still consider a Yaris(all cars can get hijacked) but I'm in the mood for something different anyway.

@ Bobs, yeah man, you definitely can get a few, high mileages though/outof warranty/motorplan, but they are there.

@ Geriatrix, you make sense buddy, rather get something as u described. Good luck man

If fuel consumption's not a particular concern, why not look at an Impreza? There's a lot of them at around R125k.

have u considered a 2nd hand AURIS? I've seen some being sold at around 125k

Older Jazz?

+ 1

Read somewhere once that they aren't high on the shopping list for hijackers/theft either. Very reliable, nice and big (for a small car). Just don't know what prices they go for as they are in demand.
