Yet another PC build thread! :)

On a normal HDD there is absolutely no possible way that there is any difference at all between SATA II/III. It really makes no difference, even to 90% of SSDs out there right now.

Okay, I think I have my build all sorted out. I did change a few things again though - I am opting for the MSI GTX570, and I am going to push for the modular HX650 instead. This has brought my quote from Libertas Computers (thanks Fred!) To a smidge over R10'000.

I am rather going to stick with the P67 chipset, as I do not think I'll benefit from the features of the Z68 chipset. SSD Caching wouldn't interest me too much, the Quick Sync tech is not something I would use anyways, and it seems to have a rather long list of prerequisites.

I'll update it on the first page, and now all I have to do is wait and actually purchase it. Soooo excited! Woot!

Argh, just when I thought I had my build all figured out. Last night I did a bit of searching and found that a lot of people are having problems with the over-current protection on the GTX570 cards that use the reference VRM's and not aftermarket ones. I guess this isn't a problem if you don't overclock, but I have read about some people that have this problem even without overclocking. I don't want to sound like I'm getting cold feet, but this seems like a major issue with these cards, and I'm not sure if it's been rectified yet.

EDIT: scratch that, Fred from Libertas Computers has explained that it was possibly only the older cards that had that issue, and the new ones should be fine :)

The HDD and Optical drive is not worthy of mentioning, since it would be down to personal preference.

The total came in to a smidge under R10'000, and after 2 months of wondering and searching, I finally bit the bullet and went for it :)
