Hi.

Looking to find out if there is any real advantage of choosing one over the other or is it a much of a muchness?

Yoco is a far better device than the iKHOKHA. Yoco also comes with a better interface.
iKhokha is far better in my opinion. Better technology and quality, MUCH lower transaction fees and they also have a card machine which prints slips. I only have ever had great service from them.

I have only ever had the best service from iKhokha! Great tap speed, a machine that prints slips and that works when the power doesn't. What more could you want? Oh wait lower transaction rates too! I mean YES PLEASE!

I think iKhokha is better than Yoco. It has lower transaction rates and a better Hello Peter rating for service by some way.

Does look suspicious..... But I actually went through the process with Yoco and then came across iKhokha and also tried them out as they had a lower transaction fee. From a tech perspective, I think they are pretty similar. For me I found more and more people needed a receipt and iKhokha enabled me to do this. I found there support was world class as well.

Someone should do a comparison article/review.. you know like on mybb.. though I guess it’s a bit hard given the requirements.. or perhaps evaluate experiences with small but similar businesses across the acquirers?

From my outside perspective(not really watching them but do find the acquiring side interesting) the ikhokha one seemed to figure out how micro merchants get their pos (kinda one of two brands I noticed u can buy pos over the counter and set up) and then also cater for vas sales.. initially with a full PoE before offering mobile/compact ones .. also later they seemed to start to work on merchant pos portal etc.

Yoco seemed to start with the other way.. focus on micro & mobile with merchant portal + ecom & UX and now seem to working on other parts of it ie knowing cash flow you beat suited to identify businesses to support with loans etc as you can tell it’s working or not and the loans are less risky?

It’s all very interesting to me.. also looking abroad at other players from the uk one started by brothers/stripe that started in ecom and then pushing to retail and then us/square the other way.

Different strategies I guess.. keep in mind there are more entrenched players who deal with chains and of cause banks compete in the space too.

Do either of these work outside of mobile coverage, ie. with an Ethernet connection ala satellite or WISP?

Why use a credit card reader at all? Companies out there can send people a link to a payment gateway straight to their mobile phone.

Don't think so. I used a iKhokha at a B&B the other day. There was pretty much zero cell signal. He said he had satellite internet and the iKhokha device linked to this via Wifi.

If you have a card you don't have to struggle with apps or connectivity or Wi-Fi passwords or battery charging. It's just a tap and if more than a threshold, a pin.

That's a yes. iKhokha confirmed that it works via Wi-Fi via their payment receiving app, or Wi-Fi via your phone for the Bluetooth device, which is much cheaper, or Wi-Fi or Ethernet directly depending on which standalone device, which costs a bit more.
