Hi there

I really need your help - I've Googled the internet blue but can not get my webcam to work properly. It's a Yodata webcam (not recommended!). The picture seems OK (not great but OK) but I can't get the built in mic to work at all! The driver for this webcam currently installed is a default Windows 7 driver. I've searched the internet for a vendor specific driver but no luck!

I'm pretty sure the webcam is correctly installed - USB plus 3.5mm jack into the mic socket - don't think you can get that wrong.

Would appreciate some help.

Does your pc have more than one mic socket(most pc's have sockets at the front & rear of the case)? If so, try another socket...

Good point but I checked now - only one socket at the back - and yes, I made sure that I didn't swap the mic and speakers around :)

What software did you use to test audio input?

Have you tried any of the online mic tests(example)?

I can see on the sound settings that it's not picking up any sound but I've also tested with Skype

Thanks for the tip - will try out the onlinemictest

Tried the onlinemictest but clearly showed that my mic is not working/connected. Didn't even show the line - tried selecting the different options on the settings as well. Webcam works.... sort of - very dark.... maybe I should just get a better webcam

You may want to try webcam/mic on another pc or try another mic on current pc first...but webcams are relatively cheap so may be easier to just get another. Best of luck.

Perhaps a stupid suggestion, but some devices have a volume/mute control on the cable or perhaps the mic itself.
