You can now try out Microsoft's Chromium Edge browser

Microsoft has made its latest Edge preview builds available to download, allowing Windows 10 developers to try out the new version of the browser based on Google's open-source Chromium project.

The company has released its Canary and Developer builds for the browsers, which are designed to help developers become acquainted with the new platform ahead of its official roll-out.
 
Not trying to troll here, but why?
Chrome is already cross platform, including Linux and Android. If you don't trust Google, then Chromium or Firefox. It's the same reason I don't use Safari on macOS.
I want the same browser info (bookmarks, history etc) across all my devices, that includes Windows, MacOS, Linux and Android. These days it's not all about speed, but overall experience.
 
Edge brings tighter integration into the MS world...

So if your account is a Live account, then Edge would make more sense than Google with its Google account integration.

Beyond that, I don't think there is much differentiation.

MS can deeply integrate it into Windows unlike Google with Chrome plus they stripped out many things.

I wonder how that retarded EU law regarding the bundling of browsers with Windows is going to work now?
I mean what are they going to say? That Microsoft is abusing its dominant position by including a browser that is mostly made by its competitor?
 
Does it have smooth scroll for PDF when using touch? PDF scrolling lags like mad on FF and Chrome if using touch.
 
The layout is already a bit better for touch than Chrome. The items on menus, like bookmarks, are just spaced too close together on Chrome.

I'm very curious to see the effect of this browser on batter life, but I guess it won't be too impressive in the early days if it's effectively still in beta.

Unless they messed up chromium, it should be fine.
 
Been using it for couple days now. Has already replaced Chrome on my machine
 
As someone who couldn't figure out why anyone would use Edge previous...because it never bloody worked even once....

I am pretty astounded by how solid and super fast this early build is.

Even went as far as installing it on iOS.

It's super fast.

This, and being more widely supported. EdgeHTML is dead and unsupported by both Android and iOS. Those who didn’t know, the Edge mobile version on Andriod is Chromium (Blink) and on iOS is WebKit. MS is standardising, bringing their desktop ecosystem inline with mobility.

There is that... yes..

There is also a concern (and one I'm sort of on the fence with atm) in relation to the dominance of Chromium in the browser market. We are, in a way, back in the IE vs everyone else world again... albeit at a different level.
