The SABC was slammed by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa yet again recently for continually reporting Tshwane instead of Pretoria where necessary in their news.
Tshwane doesn’t exist as a registered place name apart from being a metropolitan municipality. The real Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality also referred to as The City of Tshwane on every possible sign post where one would expect the capital of South Africa’s true name is a massive place with loads of proper identifiers to be used within it in decent news reporting. Everything happening in Pretoria on the SABC news simply happens in “Tshwane” instead of for instance “Garsfontein, Pretoria”. They are as unspecific and vague as humanly possible in a news report where “Pretoria” is supposed to be used.
It is plain and simple government propaganda and it is high time it gets squashed like the cancerous grime and festering boil that it resembles on the landscape of our young democracy. The people of this country deserve better!
Rather legally change the name of Pretoria to Tshwane if it really is that important instead of resorting to propaganda with its sleaze and conspiracy that it inevitably goes hand and hand with. The silence on the part of politicians on this single issue says more about their mentality than any judgement in any court or broadcasting complaints commission of this country could ever attempt to do. It is tragic that politicians feel they can play the South African public like that.
Make no mistake; it is high level decisions at play here. It is simply too in your face not to be. You simply have to compare especially the SABC’s television news with that of independent news sources to spot the difference. If they continue to say Tshwane on the news tonight instead of being properly specific about where in the Tshwane Metro something happened, then you can be assured it is at least silently endorsed by as high up as cabinet and that the BCCSA can be freely ignored even with the prospect of hefty fines!
The real scary thing about this propaganda is what if it really works to whatever ends whoever implemented it wants?!!? It would mean that the South African public at large are mere sheep in a political kraal. The fact that nobody seems to be willing to correct this error in the newsroom with even legendary newscaster Riaan Cruywagen just simply grinding on in Afrikaans about Tshwane, says something about the set policy. The consistency of it smacks of an organized effort on the part of SABC News and its integrity can be seriously questioned with just this single issue.
- Note that my opinion does not necessarily reflect that of MyBroadband and is entirely my own. -
In short you cannot trust the SABC news.
