Hello

/anger.switch = on

I would just like to say that this Per-Gig-Billing story is utter crap and im sick of people saying "oooh ! it works so perfectly for me" or "oh my, how nice of Telkom" or "Gosh, this is great !". If you think per-gig billing is fine, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ADSL...YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY, GO BACK TO A 56K DIAL UP...

Confused ? Let me explain...

Notice how the people that are happy with the new per-gig billing structure are the ones that don't use ADSL to it's full advantage (hell, they hardly use ADSL !) ? They say things like "ooooh ! I've only used 1.08 GB of my cap and it's the last day of the month"

They are the ones that point fingers at the people who DO take advantage of it and call us ABUSERS ? I mean, just because you can find stuff to download (downloaded 7 gigs of demos and patches from saix game server last month and I only have 3GB cap !), don't call us abusers...

These are the same people who only have ADSL to check their email two (maybe three) times a day and maybe look at three or four websites a day (most likely news websites). <- If this is you, just go back to dial up, you are wasting the little amount of bandwidth that you do actually use. Ask yourself this, why are you paying so much for a super fast (okay, not really super fast in SA) for a 24 hour connection if you are only going to be using it for a few mins a day ?

I'm gonna say this once...THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ABUSING ADSL !!! If I wanna download 2TB of pron  (or what ever) on a 1 GB cap account (using this as an example !!!) downloading @ full speed and all you wanna do is read your little emails (while complaining about the speed and saying "damn the net is slow today, it must be those damn abusers"), then the only real abuse was you wasting the technicians time when he came to install your ADSL line !

I know that there are users on this forum that agree with me as I've seen similar topics on so called "Abusers"...

PS : Telkom, please go and shove your per-gig (not long until it's per-meg billing. <-You might find some people happy with this too ! )

/anger.switch = off <- Feel alot better that I got that off my chest !

I agree, the whole mywireless FLEXI (bullSHAT) and iburst 500MB cap or whatever lower cost packages, is on par with Telkoms first move lower again of 192k adsl. Now we get per gig billing, eventually we will drop cost/speed so low, that 1gig would be the theoretical maximum your line can do a month anyways.

This is all bad moves, and backwards. Current services should see price reductions, and faster services should take up the cost of the slower service old price.

Nothing happening atm in the market is Positive, and all the people rooting for these options is helping to destroy the telecoms in SA even further.

Think of it like this, and its exactly whats happening with telecoms, offer a ****ty service and get people to eventually accept it, then offer even ****tier service and see if people accept it. This way you drop cost and increase profits.

Same is happening in banking, car, insurance and generally ANYTHING in SA. As long as you see more users just not thinking further than their arse, you can pocket more money.

I agree that the per billing system can and will affect loads of people specifically the small businesses and the average power user, I also see where it can be benificial. Even in the USA I pay for my first 30 gigs of band width, and then pay per gig there after.... the system works.

What I dont agree with is the pricing and the HUGE line rental, that is incorrect and no offence but if your paying for a 1 gig CAPPED account, and your downloading 2 gigs.. You are abusing it. The fact that the 1 gig account and the price we pay for it is laughable is not the point, you did sign up for 1 gig, 3 gig, 30 gig whatever, use double what your paying for.. thats abuse. Downloading movies/music/demos/etc is not abusing you can do what you want with it you are paying for it, going AWOL downloading is..

I'm going to make this really simple, from my perspective:

Is ADSL all it should be? No.

Is ADSL 192 on per-gig billing better FOR ME than ISDN was? Yes.

Whether I use ADSL to ITS full potential is of no concern to you. I use it how I need to use it.

Kalvaer - u have to understand, till november, Telkom did push local bandwidth as uncapped so downloading more locally after capped is part of what you signup for. Thats not stealing?

Hang on Guys

Their is no problem in providing a service to all netizens whether it be myWireloss or go burst my bubble, equally someone needs to provide a service to the more serious higher cap community. Per se i have no problem with per GB billing just with telkoms proposed implementation of it. Try Slingshot ( http://www.slingshot.co.nz/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=999&tabid=11&subnav=3 )
they also have a per gb billing or put more acurately per 10GB billing, i guess they dont think anyone would really consider buying just one gb at a time, what would you use it for?

Aaaahhh that I understand and agree with to a point (still say 117 gigs on a 3 gig account is overboard).. which was why I was careful not to mention local :)

Still I agree with the fact that you get what you pay for, we are paying for certain caps. I will again say though that I do not agree with the pricing, and the caps.

But give me reasonable pricing, and Hell cap/shape me all you like. Its Just not financially viable right now for ANYONE.. local or not
