So, this is their plan:
1 - Community reports people selling stolen stuff. The police react immediately to these.
2 - Hire unemployed youth to help with stopping robberies in progress. This idea was slammed by the DA, the DA says police training will be improved instead, because the DA do not want to endanger these youth.

So, idea 1 is being rolled out, idea 2 is in a state of flux.

Idea 1 is very powerful if the Police can respond immediately. Now, we al know that we stopped reporting crimes about 7 years ago when the police stopped responding to our reports. If the police play their part, things will definitely change.

But, every time a police officer tells me the community is not helping with policing I ask him what his response time is like, from the time the person called in the crime. And, a heated argument always ensues because the policeman knows that that is just one of the failures, but he is powerless to do anything about it.

The other failure is the prosecution aspect, and the inspectors adherence to procedures.

Now, why is it that I can see these things as plain as day, but the people doing the work are in denial?

Nothing will change if they are only serious about tackling some crime, and still let corrupt ANC members get away with anything. No-one will take them seriously while someone like Yengeni is part of the ANC NEC, and Shaik gets a get-out-of-jail card. You can't have it both ways, ALL crime needs to be taken seriously.

You know what would work for me, is it they just went ahead and started arresting criminals without the need for making news or informing the public that they are going to do so. They are the damm police and that is their job. Thing about it, you secretary, walks in to your office tomorrow morning, with her pr chap, and informs you that she will start doing your typing and filing. Hell that is what she was employed for 6 months ago!!!!

:D Too true!

I have the same problem with government departments / agencies taking out half or full page ads in the paper, saying that they will render the service we already know they are supposed to render (and not forgetting the big photo of the minister / Premier / MEC taking up half the space in the ad).

WTH? JUST DO IT!!

Hehe. Would be a cracker if in fact there was a small Nike logo at the bottom. :D

It's because 99% of what they said they would do, is not being done. But their voting class only sees what goes on in the papers, on TV. Their voters don't know one AIDS-poverty inflicted day from the next so they can't tell whether the country is collapsing or not, whether government officials are millionaires or not. So, when the government finally does something right, they make a big scene of it and all the little maggots think everything is getting better. "Tha struhggle iz goink forwahd."

Yes, I do have some experience in SA's politics. Yes, it makes life here even harder.
