Your birth - Ceasarian or Normal?

Normal, and an hour after my brother. And this was after my mother had already been in labour for 7 hours before my brother was delivered; so, 8 hours labour in all. I love that women dearly

My three siblings and I were all pretty easy natural childbirths, apparently. The smallest of us was just over 4.5kg. My little sister was 5.5kg.

Me - ceasarian.

Normal. I was delivered by a vet and I also came out relatively OK. My mom was travelling through a seriously 1 horse town when I came. The area was experiencing a foot-and-mouth disease epidemic. Boom time for vets. My mom lived on a local farm for a while (very hospitable farmers in SA those days). The area was economically depressed. Any extra revenue stream (board & lodging) was welcome. The cattle used to stream past her window in the mornings on the farm. She could tell the infected animals by listening to the sound the hooves made. The diseased animals made a sort-of double klop sound (the foot part of foot-and-mouth).

My wife is going for water birth, so normal...but here where we stay, the ratio of ceasarian to normal birth is 80:1 that's SHOCKING! Makes me think that those little rumours about Doc's doing Ceasarians for money is true? Coz aparently the needle in the back is a bit hectic, and it could cause complications later on???

We went for our 2cnd last Doc visit yesterday, 37 weeks...no issues!

You do get a spinal when you go for a C-Section, they rarely use general anesthesia and an epidural (mostly) for a normal birth (slight difference between a spinal & epidural (I think it has to do with which parts go numb)) so I don't know about a complications rumour either way.

I think alot of doctors opt for Ceasars as they can plan around it. You never know when a woman will go in labour. LOL :D My gynae did the same thing - he scheduled my C-section for the Tuesday (his theatre day) my son decided he is coming just before midnight the previous Friday night (via C-sec). Gynae just had to alter his plans somewhat...

LOL...ja my wifey is kinda scared of the epidural...the epidural is the spinal one where the body is numb but she will still be awake...but she is upset coz we thought our daughter is coming this week already...but now we heard its another 3 more weeks....eish. So she at home now watching all the movies...

Congratulations on the impending birth of your baby. Enjoy these last couple of weeks and hope your baby is a late bloomer. You are staring months of sleepless night in the face!!!

Pretty sure later birth correlates with higher IQ, so might be a good turn of events. Not 100% sure on that though.:o
