How do you write yours?

1. Do you sum up your resume in the letter?
2. Do you elaborate on your background?
3. Do you try matching your skills to that of the application requirements?
4. Do you copy/paste the same drivel over several applications?

For me, I've decided that although I'll stick to professionalism, I include the human-factor so a little (extremely light) tongue-in-cheek here and is not punishable by death.

Gotta keep things interesting.

:D

I was looking for a sales person. I got a CV with the cover letter that said "5 reason why you should interview me", followed by 5 short points she felt she was best suited for the job. I interviewed her, she go the job. And was the best salesperson I ever hired. Because she knew how to sell.

extremely simplified with a little creativity and no 3

only had to use it twice, got the job both times

I usually throw a sales pitch. 1 Paragraph and to the point and specific to the company (not some generic copy / paste)

My CV is summarized enough, 4 pages long. 2 for work experience and 2 for education +-

My name/personal details in the header (or footer, depending)

I've been complimented saying that my CV was a breath of fresh air because it was to the point and they got to learn about my skill which prompted them to interview me to get to know *me* better.

If you have to wade through 100's of CV's (I had to as well at a point) you'll get to "glaze" over some and then make rash decisions.
