Expanded I/O is a huge plus, and at last some mounting holes.
Why I asked for device names and prices, my RPi does everything I ask of it, that is it fits my needs, but if I can get a similar device cheaper - well why not, but I have yet to find one. Better processors, more RAM, are available for more money - all the way to 8 core desktop screamers ... , with 32 Gig. of RAM ...Agree, nothing in the pricerange of the Pi afaik.
My DWA125. (A3G) (?) works fine, think I paid R125.00 for it, 2 other wifi dongles don't work without firmware DWA160 and a Netlink cardI set up a Pi for a friend as an IP camera. He is using an apache server on the Pi so that an outside server can grab live(ish) images from the camera with a simple http GET. We bought a bit of a difficult Wi-Fi dongle (DWA-132) though and couldn't get it going.
Lighthttpd might be a better choice than Apache.I set up a Pi for a friend as an IP camera. My Huawei K4605 works fine on my Pi, just very expensive data ...I'd love to be able to use 3G to get into a remote cam...

Hi All,
Im also considering setting up a NAS / Download / radio player. Seems fairly trivial to setup on the pi, but Im not too sure what HDD I should use: a 3.5" or 2.5"? I'd prefer the 2.5" due to small form-factor and possibly without an additional power supply. It will be a headless setup for now, so will there be enough power to run the 2.5" hdd? What did you use?
Thanks
Thanks jarrodr, I think I will go the same route. Ive got a 2A powered hub that also powers the pi so hoping I can keep it simple.I have setup a headless Downloading PI.
I use a 2.5" HDD, it uses a 2-into-1 usb cable. I hacked the usb cable in such a way that 1 usb male does not draw power from the PI but the 2nd usb male draws power from a dedicated power source.
If your router has a USB port, that could work has a power source. My PI is located next to my router. works like a charm. Thanks jarrodr, I think I will go the same route. Ive got a 2A powered hub that also powers the pi so hoping I can keep it simple.
Ive just setup mopidy on the pi for streaming audio. May add in a small LCD later.
Why not setup samba on the PI and install Allway Sync on your pc. My server syncs every 1 hour... beats the manual labour.I use a USB memory stick ( 32Gig. ) on the Pi, download to it, then once a day, move all completed downloads to another box, then to the correct directory for use. Doudt the Pi would power a 2.5 USB HDD, if I used one, I put the second plug into a powered hub, or an independant power supply.
