Your Raspberry Pi Projects

i am trying to create a gps tracker using my pi

Are you going to be using an off the shelf GPS shield? Or perhaps designing your own? I assume it will be battery powered; do you have any ideas on what type of battery you will be using? Please keep us updated.

I'm looking at replacing my Pi 1 Model B with the Pi 2 Model B.

Is ZA RS Online the cheapest at the moment?

Has anyone ordered from them recently? How long did it take for them to dispatch?

Edit
I see they have it in stock.

Their shipping costs are not as nice as they used to be (<R35). Even then I still haven't seen it cheaper.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was about to checkout then posted here looking for any possible alternatives :D

My old Pi + case costed me just under R400 with shipping from ZA RS 2.5 years ago :(

I ordered my second RPi 2 from RS Electronics last week Monday, and it was delivered today. They didn't have stock then, looks like they ordered a few at the same time mine came in probably. I ordered a case at the same time, and the case arrived the next day, so they're pretty fast with shipping in stock items I'd say.

I'm also wondering, what are you planning to do with win 10 on your pi?

Still looking at the possibilities, I'm not an electronics guy I still have to learn so a friend will give me a scope of what's possible. Basically something IoT, have the backend running in the cloud and have a notification pushed to the Pi for execution.
My friend will take care of the wiring and I'll manage the coding.

Sounds interesting. Please keep us updated. Especially where you host your back-end, technologies used etc.

Interesting. But why Windows 10 and not something lightweight, like Linux?

A universal app will be created so it will be easier to integrate with the Azure backend also it will be a lot more productive for me to code in C#.

Fair enough. I'm not sure what support C# is going to have on the GPIO pins though.

They have a lot of sample projects on their Github page, I need to get some components like LEDs etc. And start playing around with it.

Ah great! Enjoy it, nothing beats the thrill of getting an electronic project working. Even if its just a blinking LED :p
