Still cannot get a damn image on the pi. i dunno what i am doing wring. i used the program where you write the image on the sd card, but the sd card does not want to boot.

could the problem maybe be that i use a memory stick like device where the sd card plugs into?

You are putting the image on a SD card correct? (And not a USB stick)

It should be a very straightforward procedure - download image and write img file to SD Card. I"ve used Win32 Disk Imager for this for years and have never had issues.

doubt that is your problem. i use the same method and it works. did u see gregmcc's post about win32 disk imager? are you using it?

the only time i had a problem was with an sd card that was not supported. i was struggling for weeks. i had a 50-50 chance of it booting. finally read up on supported sd cards and found the problem was the card. was a samsung sd card IIRC

so if you are sure that you are doing it right i would suggest trying another sd card. as in another brand. there is a list somewhere for supported sd cards. just google it.

edit:
o and one more thing: are u using the correct image? cannot use a pi1 image on a pi2

What format is the SD card? FAT32 or NTFS? for some reason mine didnt work in FAT had to be NTFS

I did the exact steps as they mentioned. could it be that the mini usb does not provide enough power. anyone in cpt willing to assist

This is a big issue with the Pi - they need a solid 5V. Try another usb cable - I've seen some of the cheaper usb cables that have a high resistance. Even a drop of 0.4v is enough to cause issues.

Best I found is to use my HTC wall chargers to power the Pi.

I have used a Blackberry 750milli amp charger was not happy with it - feel it was marginal. Happy using my Samsung S4 2 Amp charger. Have bought 2x 2amp power supplies from PiFactory for my RPi's - very happy with them.

Whats the speed of your SD card? could be a really slow thats why you not seeing results quickly enough

Talking about SD cards, I use Samsung or Sandisk cards, I buy from CNA - most convenient for me. 8 or 16 Gig. Cards.

Ok guys, I got rasbian to boot up into gui and I can ssh and rdp into the rpi2. I just cannot get Plex media server to work. I followed online videos and steps on different websites, but I just can't get it to work. Normally at the end when you have ran everything, then you just http://localhost:32400/web into the browser then it should come up. I just can't get it to work. I have done different builds and images, but no go. Is there anyone in Cape Town that can assist me to get it working, I will appreciate it. Wether I come to you or via pm, whatsappi the does not matter to me. Just want to use the rpi 2 to run PMS on it and stream all my content from it.

Would really appreciate it gents.

Put OpenElec on mine last night, has an old version of XBMC/KODI included (ver. 4 ) - a bit slow, but works fine so far. First time I have run XBMC/KODI so I am still learning, making headway. Want to put OSMC on and see how that works out, downloaded before going to bed last night.

I'm using one Pi 2+ as a plex front end for my dumb TV with RasPlex. It works a real treat. Got it hooked up to my FreeNAS box running Plex, NZBGet, Transmission, Sonarr, Headphones and CouchPotato. I love it.

I'm also using one to build a slot car lap recorder. I'm making an infrared break bream circuit that will trigger when the guide of the car goes past a point in the slot. I can't decide what I want to build the software for it in though. Either Raspbian + node.js or Windows 10 IoT, neither of which I've used before and would be great fun learning.

Silly question, but are you trying that in the browser on the Pi or from your desktop attached to the network? That URL will only work in the browser on the Pi.

Using the Pi at weighbridges and to open or close booms if the vehicle is authorised based on weight, RFID and license plate recognition. The latter being run on an independent system of course, but the Pi plays a big role in what could be described as a hybrid between traffic control and access control.
