Your Raspberry Pi Projects

I have wanted to do this though I would love to do SmoothWall or IPCop. Seems you need a USB Ethernet adapter to have two wired interfaces. I've always liked DDWRT and Tomato myself.

Would use it as a smart AP. With a decent WiFi adapter like the TL-WN822N maybe , which has antenna , it can do the job well. Basically a router with 256/512mb ram and 8gb storage space. Most routers come with 4mb/8mb flash and 16/32mb ram.

In theory it's your firewall, runs your PPOE connection and serves your wireless clients. All powered by a USB power adapter with a huge power bank
 
Anyone loaded openwrt or dd-wrt or other router firmware on a pi?

I am not sure if a Raspberry Pi is the best suited to be used as a router, but if you really must I am sure it can. I personally would rather consider one of these:

1. Banana Pi BPI-R1:

^^ this is the one I have been eyeing to replace my Mikrotik maybe eventually.

Added a 'UPS' to my Pi yesterday :D

Someone gave me a brand new battery for my Huawei B315 and I am running the Pi off the USB port as it handles my VPN. I also found a sentinel in the form of a teeny little spider keeping watch over my interwebz.

Come at me, eskom! Muahahaha

I wouldn't call that a UPS, battery backup is a better description to be honest.
 
But...but... It's a power supply...and it's uninterruptible

Hi All

I have been loving my opensprinkler irrigation system running on Pi.

I created my own pcb's to make things simple.

pcb contains rtc and switch mode psu to power the pi off the 24Vac transformer.

I have done 2 runs for the guys on the avforums of the pcb's , just add your transformer and any pi ( pi zero wireless should be most cost effective).

we are trying to get another production run ready , i will need interest from at least 10 people to be able to make it worth my while to get pcb's manufactured.

I don't do this as an income. This is a hobby I son't see me producing this in massive quantities, this is for hobbyists.
I find the opensprinkler system a massive step up from the standard cheap irrigation controllers ,and with weather underground support and an android / IOS app you can save a lot of water and it makes your irrigation controller a closed box with nearly no local control needed apart from from your phone.

I have also connected my pool pump , wellpoint pump and some lighting etc on some of the unused channels.

They board i made has 16 channels built in.

Hey MyBB,

So decided to build myself an oversized controller ^^.

The custom proof of concept project [1] was quite fun.
Using an extremely-Hard Cover A4 sitting underneath the Shoebox lid, with a side cutter and knife to do the job :')

Moving on to the final project [2], had this "Hype Box" just chilling around home, decided to add some hinges for maintenance.
2 Standard controller kits just mounted for some pure straight-out fun.

Final decision still to be made:
- build the pi into the box with: power and hdmi inputs exposed VS
- leave it with lengthy usb cables, consider it as an "oversized controller".

Pi is setup w/ retropi running some sega/neogeo/n64 roms, still battling with the static config for controllers.
Quite a fun project, didn't take too much time and yeah that's about it.
