Your Raspberry Pi Projects

Thanks.

No, not that I am aware, and this domain appears to be only be accessed from the phone, none of the other devices on the network. It might be an app on the phone I suppose, but am generally fairly circumspect about those, and none of them are for mining.

Perhaps a factory reset is in order. Joy!

Quick update. Removed all uninstallable apps from my phone and now the problem has gone, so good on PiHole.

One of them must have been a problem child, so none of them are going back on.

It is actually scary when you start seeing all the requests your devices are making.

List of of what pi doing:

Pihole - dns server for blocking spam, scam, malware etc. dnssec also configured.

Speedtest-cli - speedtesting fibre, lte and so forth and log to mysql. Took the plugin for pihole for this and customized to fit my needs. Instead of sqlite using mysql mainly cause i know syntax more and graphing.

Custom scripts found and edited for own needs:
Api to routers to collect signal quality and data rates.

Telegraf for snmp - still work in progress. Pi and routers snmp.

Grafana to graph all the above.

Note most of this existing stuff on git that used and customized to suit my needs where needed.

Still busy customizing the graphing a bit.

Probably going to sort out the graphing today and then start looking at netflow graphing.

Edit: considering getting bit stronger pi type device. Pi isn’t slow for what am doing yet. Just for what idea i have for future gonna be doing a lot.

Use a PI Zero for

Garage Door controller with Blynk
Email Alerts for the garage door using postfix (open and close alerts)

Currently working on
Asterisk IVR to open the garage door using a PIN
Boundary Wall light automation

What do you use EZ-WifiBroadcast for? As a wireless alternative to running HDMI cables? What's your source?
Drones. It will be attached to the Mini Talon platform i'm currently setting up. Think of EZ-Wifibroadcast as a cheap, hobbyist alternative to the DJI (Mavic, Phantom) Occusync system.

Recently installed PiHole on my existing UniFi / DHCP / VPN / DynDNS / Reverse proxy Pi. Very easy install, with major improvement of everyone's browsing experience. Also seems to have sped up loading of many pages (even on a 100Mbps fibre line). Additional load on the Pi seems negligible.

I have a rock64 and setting up a mini SIEM with it. The device use OSSEC as our host-based intrusion detection system and Graylog for visualization of the event logs. Busy doing a github writeup.
So OSSEC HIDS server --> MongoDB --> Elasticsearch --> Graylog

On another note: Anyone have an old PI camera they want to sell perhaps? PM me!

I"ve done quite a few from PiShop, friendly and easy to work bunch, normally just go collect... and normally end up buying something more....

otherwise I buy from ThePiHut and/or pimoroni and ship to a friend in the UK which then consolidates multiple orders into one UPS/Aramex shipment for me.

Hi and welcome.

Locally I would suggest either https://www.pishop.co.za/ or https://www.hobbytronics.co.za/

The Pi Model 3B should be fine for what you want to do. I do believe the 3B Plus is still not registered with ICASA as of yet so no one stocks them locally.

Remember to get a decently fast MicroSD card to eliminate any storage bottlenecks, and use the official RPi power adapter as using subpar, lower amperage ones can cause OS corruption or other issues.

If I can ask, which valves are you using,
did you install a water flow meter? record how much water each irrigation point gets?

I'm using standard hunter valves.

I use standard 24V AC hunter valves, no flow meter. The Opensprinkler system does keep a log of how long a station ran, so I can use that to approximate use. I have a borehole though, so total water use is not as important as electricity used (which I do measure).

I used to have a Rainbird irrigation controller, but became fed up with having to run out in the rain to switch it off. Basically I just removed the controller, retaining the rest of the irrigation system (Cabling, valves, rain sensor - even the Rainbird enclosure). The Opensprinkler system has a weather adjustment feature which uses measurements from WUnderground as reported by a local (my own) weather station. I very rarely have to change anything anymore - it just works automagically.

The SprinklerPi is connected via CAT5 (more reliable than WiFi), and I have a VPN set up. This means that if need to, I can access it regardless of where I am.
