Sorry but I am struggling to understand this.

Sorry but I am struggling to understand this.
order value R390.
tax and dutues paid R110.
items in a service kit are listed as seperate items and not as a kit .
description of certain items for bill is not the proper description ,obviously makes it easier to clear as knee pad than as a prosthetic leg .
cleared under Buffalo permit and not mine ,so i dont think customs even sees these items ,as the system automatically picks up my import/export permit with my id number , obviously its a batch clearing at a certain percent which customs is happy with .
local value of items before courier or collection is R550 ,so very little savings on this order except not waiting for stock from a local supplier .

Order delivered just now. Received R35 back to make the total R315.

Ordered 29th of April delivered today 7 May.

Hmmm my last orders seem to be taking their time, not even the tax payment yet.

So I'm in a situation that's really made me appreciate what Temu is doing on the shipping front, it's such a stark contrast.

Ordered a bit of tech from a US seller, not available on Temu. Value ~R 2k. Shipping ~R1k on top.

Ten mins after placing the order I found something else to add. High stakes when shipping is 30% of total cost. Well they couldn't accommodate that, unless I phoned them on a US landline and was prepared to give CC deets over the phone. Pity, Temu has made my trigger finger too quick.

Next day the courier's SA customs human (!) looks at the invoice, sees a company name, and rejects my ID number. Wants an importer code. Or a new invoice.

So I'm in bureaucratic purgatory. I feel like the top-dollar shipping is just paying a pencil pusher to make extra work for me and/or the seller. They even have the nerve to threaten that if I don't do this admin asap, my parcel will be impounded by the government, with a R5k release fee. How's that for customer service?

Makes me grateful for Temu's attitude of largely taking the p*ss as long as the customer gets his goodies.

looks like you're on a totally different system...
I can't order below R400 and all my taxes are sorted by Buffalo, even when delivered by a 3rd party
I requested from fastway the breakdown and they just say customs is gov requirement and I can lookup the calculation. Bastards are hiding their handling fees in there. As much as we like temu the companies that manage customs do hide how it is calculated for your order.

Okay so just placed my third order off Temu, it's just a few hundred worth per month, I'm not rich lol. Some things I've noticed..

* In the beginning, Temu allowed me to do price adjustments refundable to my card, however every-time now it's only store credit.

* They pull the same crap every local retailer does in terms of "discounts". An item reportedly worth R700 suddenly selling for R30, yeah right.

* Keep a ruler with you and judge the measurements they give, especially on ornaments. They will use the smallest Chinese hands possible to hold the item when taking pictures.

* There are multiple listings of the same item from different "providers", some cheaper than others and I doubt the "providers" are real as most only have a few items listed. Add them to your wishlist and then use the "Find similar" button to get the cheaper options.

* Everything is always "selling fast", "almost sold out".. "checkout now!". Gets a bit tiring after a while.

* Customs cannot be rationally measured, they pulling some weird crap with import loopholes for sure.

Above said though, I've gotten some decent items for an incredibly cheap price. I've learned their tricks and some types of items I won't order again but if you do your due diligence you can indeed "Shop like a billionare".

I think you're right. Going to be even worse when Temu start charging shipping....

Yeah one of the first thing I bought from them is a tape measure.

For clothing for most items they use photoshop. Many other items they also photoshop. This makes dimensions and true look misleading.

Many items are in multiple categories to increase sales

Reviews are misleading. Its like people know that items will be relisted so they don't care about putting detailed reviews. The autocomplete review system is also misleading. Best best is to look at 1 star reviews and see if they say something helpful.

The multiple listings is weird. Like they remove items, maybe because they don't want a bad review to impact the sales. Also they might want to catch out people who are lazy.

Some of the plastic/silicone stuff smells very chemical. You have to soak it in water before using it.

Customs companies (Buffalo and fastway) hide the true breakdown by not telling you how the amount you have to pay is calculated. It would be great if they could have the site like amazon that has a customs estimate per item which makes things so much easier.

Temu really has a very limited amount of items. Mostly small and cheap. You reach a point that there is nothing more to buy and you wish they had more variety or bigger items but shipping would be too expensive so they don't list many big items.

Okay so R1309 order 19% tax odd how they work it out
