Your temu orders

Nope not at all
Check this posted by @tetrasect . It is mandatory field and you might have forgotten as it is asked only once ?

Or maybe you just entered some dummy number for passport.

Remember you are only allowed to order 3 times a year max up to R20k in total.
After that, you need an importers code.
SARS came after me about this in 2020 so I stopped ordering from overseas.
How difficult is it to get importers code though? And what are the implications? I am already on my 4th order so I better stop now.

What we need to know is how does SARS do this in practice?

As always in SA it seems to be a question of enforcement. If they are expecting Temu/Buffalo to enforce on their behalf, well, clearly that's not happening. Do they even pass the ID/code on to SARS in anything like real time? Or at all?

I get the feeling Temu is very much on our side regardless. Seeing what people are being asked to pay in duties/taxes makes me think one of the existential risks for Temu's local operation is SARS not taking kindly to them.
Each time an order arrived in the country Buffalo Logistics asked me for my ID number and to pay VAT etc

Very easy, just lots of paperwork you fill in and hand in and then you have an Importers Code for life. I chose not to do this to prevent myself from ordering crap we do not need

You said SARS came after you. What did that look like? Did they send you a letter directly, or did the vendor tell you you were at your limit?

Amazon also deals in ZAR?
We are talking past one another here. If YOU as an individual are charged the duties, that is seen as an import, irrespective of the company and where they are registered. Otherwise they will pay the duties as a registered importer, like Takealot.
You don't provide your ID for no reason, that is for SARS
Are Amazon and Temu both registered in South Africa?

If I order from a drop shipper like onedayonly does that count as one of my 3 imports?

I don't know, IS Temu registered in SA, I haven't checked, you said they are. But it doesn't change anything I have been saying.

Did they ship it directly from overseas, and someone asked you to pay import duties?
If not, then no, if yes, every time YOU pay import duties DIRECTLY to a clearing agent (like Buffalo, that is a +1 on your import count).

They emailed me directly with all the forms to fill in explaining to me at the time you can only order up to R20 000 a year for yourself. And only 3 times maximum. I was in my 11th order by July so I ignored them and stopped ordering from banggood.com

LOL I just googled "import R20,000 a year" and have multiple results claiming the limit to be R10,000, R20,000, R50,000 and R150,000.

Wish I knew which regulation this info is in. No ways I'm downloading and reading through 50 SARS PDFs.

I think it is R50 000 now without an importers code for personal use

Imagine SARS coming after us for buying trinklets.

Unless Buffalo pay it on behalf of Temu?

Yes, they launched in January.

So to me buying from Temu is the same as buying from Onedayonly etc.
