Your temu orders

am I imagining it, or is Temu stuff getting more expensive?
I'm no longer getting any price reductions and stuff that I previously bought and want to order again, now costs more....
Well I have a few things in my wishlist and I've noticed the prices fluctuate between expensive and cheap every month or so. Probably based on an algorithm to get you to rush on "specials" and also to add things you wanted previously that are profitable on your order.

Just noticed Temu added a third company Skynet in addition to Buffalo and Fastway to manage customs and deliveries. Will be interesting to see how their customs duties vary.
My last order was Skynet, duties was R60. Not much different than the R50 of previous order which had different items in it.

I'm definitely expecting this to happen. Surely they've been running at a loss, and will want to progressively jack prices up once they feel they've hooked users.

Also although they do multiple and recurring listings and exaggerate the low stock thing, they do eventually seem to run out of consignments of particular items and then may you find just one residual listing left at twice the old price.

People still talking kuk

Temu owner PDD Holdings has recorded a massive surge in full-year and fourth-quarter profits and revenue.
The Shangai-based company recorded total revenues of ¥247bn (£27bn) in the full year to December 31, 2023, nearly doubling from ¥130bn (£14.2bn) in 2022.
The huge rise was driven by an “increase in revenues from online marketing services and transaction services”.
Operating profit for the full year was ¥58bn (£6.3bn), up 93% from ¥30bn (£3.3bn) in 2022.
The group also recorded an increase of 123% in revenues in its fourth quarter to ¥89bn (£9.7bn), while operating profit leapt 146% to ¥22bn (£2.4bn).
PDD said 2023 was a “pivotal” year for the company, during which online marketplace Temu saw immense growth.
The group’s recorded profit beat analysts’ expectations that Temu would be unprofitable in its early stage. However, PDD revealed a 146% increase in fourth-quarter profits, boosted by transaction fees and marketing fees paid by merchants using its platforms.

1. I'm talking about their local store, not their global operation.
2. Chinese / tech companies make sh*t up.
3. If Temu is locally profitable then its merchants ("marketing fees paid by merchants") definitely are not.

Nope, still seems the same to me. A few things are bizarrely cheap and other stuff is just priced well/ok. If the tax story changes (for things other than clothing) that might change but for now I do like that import duties are essentially zero (only VAT).

They have added many products in the last month. I am seeing many more things that are priced "normally" and also more stuff that cost over R1000.

That we can't see as yet, we are probably less than 0.01% of their business

You greatly overestimate what the production cost of this junk is.

I bought a couple of these on a whim, but only realized that I got the 8.6cmx8.6cm after the fact  Are there adapters or covers I can get that will help fit standard SA light switches?

I haven't seen any of their local stores yet?

Don't get me wrong, I know the cost is near zero for the actual products. It's the logistics that's expensive. The fact you can get a bag of plastic bits collected from all over Shenzhen to your house in SA within a couple weeks and for a few hundred bucks is nothing short of remarkable.

A single lens from New York cost me R 1000 to ship, plus customs clearance fees on top. A few sheets of paper cost R 600 to get to the UK.

With Temu you pay something like a Rand per gram for air freight, and the actual product is essentially free. It's nuts. So I doubt it's profitable when fully/reasonably accounted for. China has massively distorting subsidies all across their economy, for one thing.

Its because you no special to New york.

TIL you could get condoms for caulk tubes.
They have a whole bunch of stuff I never know you could get. I have a cupboard full of these things that future me may, or may not use.

I was just searching for air fryer and weber accessories and saw a bunch of stuff I never knew I needed.
