Hey guys,

lately I have been busy designing a WordPress theme (almost finished). I have become interested in creating a flash Joomla theme. What is your views about flash? Do you like flash websites? What don't you like about them? If a site such as mybroadband was in both flash and CSS, which would you prefer?

Thanks

Personally I don't like flash sites unless they are very well done, with nice eye candy effects etc. Also I have dialup, but then again very few people still have that.

Mmmmmm - Flash. Chicks dig it, we don't. We still do it to keep chicks happy. Most of my clients fit that profile: chicks that dig moving things. So have a few tiny little movers, nothing important and nothing critical to the site, that are flash. Rest is not. I myself have ClickToFlash installed - it is a webkit plugin that stops my browser from loading any Flash well before the bandwidth is wasted. When I get to sites that are just flash, I see nothing and move on. That's the real risk.

I'll choose CSS over Flash anytime. I also disable Flash - don't want to waste the bandwidth - plus, I hate waiting for things to load and things popping up all over the place (which most flash sites do). If I ever get the "loading" pic when I enter a website I just shut it down immediately.

What is your views about flash?

I avoid flash websites.

Do you like flash websites?

Generally no. If the site uses flash for navigation I move on.

What don't you like about them?

Once a site starts having flash the designers tend to go over the top. Flash is a horrible waste of my data, it costs me to view sites with flash on them so I click away.

If a site such as mybroadband was in both flash and CSS, which would you prefer?

CSS (it's already in CSS)

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I'm actually glad that you prefer CCS over flash. I just saw a few flash sites and they are really pretty, but I think it gets stupid after visiting the site a few times. Also CSS seems easier than Flash!

You can achieve so very pretty sites with CSS as well, albeit a bit more "static". Thing is, jumping bunnies and running kittens distract the user from the actual CONTENT of the site. Having a Flash(y) site is very bad for users suffering from ADD...

Flash is awesome if you want to make a RIA (Rich Internet Application). Specifically around animation and fluid graphics. Mind you though it totally sucks and becomes a pain when you want to make it talk to databases. Quite a bit of work involved.

That's where Silverlight Comes in :)

Flash is sucky - also using a bit of jquery can get you your movement if its deemed necessary.

I hope Apple will be the death of flash.

Flash has its place
Understanding that is probally harder than learning flash altogether
