Did Youtube disable the ability for people to download videos ? I am even aunable to download public domain videos.

Since about a week ago I am unable to download any videos from youtube using the "youtube downloader" plugins/extensions for Chrome and the Maxthon browser. I'm using Chrome v24 (latest version), latest updates of all the extensions and I have an active Google account. I also tried Chromium and no joy.
I use one of the many youtube downloaders, when I select the reolution of the video I want to download I get
Error: "Access to web page denied".

using YTD as a stand alone, had a similar issue about 2 weeks ago until I realised that YTD hadn't automatically updated, did the update and is working fine (busy with a download at the time of posting).

There was some news a while ago about youtube threatening legal action against sites offering ways to download their videos. The one i used has also stopped offering youtube downloads.

Yeah, I have the same issue. It looks like Google removed all Youtube downloader extensions from the Chrome store, and disabled the installation of third party scripts in Chrome. Bummer.

I suggest that everyone with working workarounds or knowledge of other working solutions post here to help out the rest of us.

It's called "Firefox", and the plugin is called "DownloadHelper"

I use Flashgot for firefox. It offers to download video once it started buffering and passes on to your favorite download manager (offers wide selection of supported DM's). Passes on downloads for other things too.
Unfortunately it is only for Firefox.

That did not work when I tried it last night, but it worked fine then I tested it now. Hopefully they don't get shut down by Google too.

Looks like I will have to switch between FireFox and Chrome to get my fix of a youtube video.

I could download a video from YouTube yesterday, I downloaded a 281MB mp4 video from YouTube.. I use YTD Video Downloader, it was working well, got 35 - 39kb/s on my 384kbps Line.

Free You Tube Download version 3.1.37 build 918 (i.e. current) works fine

Free Download Manager works well, and since I am already using it for downloads, it's very convenient as well.

This is really annoying as my media center had an app that would let me watch youtube video's and now it wont work :/

They will have to release a new version of the firmware to fix it.
