I'm so sorry—love, backstreetboy. God forgive me.

YouTube Brandcast is a keynote highlighting the virtues of the platform for advertisers, and the 2023 edition included two big announcements that will impact the TV ads experience.

YouTube on connected (smart) televisions is adding 30-second “non-skips.” These unskippable ads will appear on YouTube Select content, which is what the company deems to be the top videos. This longer format allows marketers to “use existing assets in front of the most-streamed content."

The second big announcement (as seen above) are ads that appear “when people pause a video.”

No mention if it is for YTP or free or both though.

I'm fine with an unskippable 30-second advert
Perfect timing to go for a quick whizz and grab another beer

They started with 10-second unskippable ads. Now they have 15-second unskippable ads. I found that if you quit the vid and start it again 3 times then it starts without ads.

Just use one of the alternative youtube apps that block ads properly

YouTube revamp is gut

Since 15th May, there are ads at the beginning of a clip, even in the R72,00 a month paid version. Then if you pause a show (I look at the BBC stuff a lot), it recommences with an advert. Not too long though

Naturally YouTube did not answer me as to why

If there is no response, I will stop the debit order

Haven't had that yet. Mine is still ad free apart from in video sponsored content.

Aah, the old extortion trick:

Let's force them to watch long ads until they sign up, then we hit them with more ads!

And then double-down on un-incentivizing regular/popular contributors and rather suggest content that the viewer is not interested in.

Keep at it until your consumers leave in disgust.

Patreon looks more promising by the day

without adds to pay the bills ,no income ,no YT

They have 50 million subscribers @ $11.99 that probably signed up for no ads .

I reckon plenty of those will leave if they start ads when they paid for no ads.
