Z2200 are probably better. In fact definitely, if memory serves correct. Z-2300 are quite nice though, own them myself. Of course Logitech put way too much emphasis on bass, which can be a problem for accuracy. But the masses love the bass.
Since about 3 - 4 years ago, Logitech speakers have become cheaper and cheaper, and have taken a decline.
If you value audio quality, get headphones.
Edit: I mean headphones at that budget of around R1.5k, although I'm not sure how you'd get end of life Z-2200/Z-2300's. Sennheiser HD555 would blow them out the water for sound quality, music, gaming etc. They will also show you what sound should sound like when there is no emphasis put on bass (or mids/treble) - something the producer of the sound would not want. Logitech's signature sound is the bass, as I said most love it but it's wrong.![]()
What's the alternative then for decent PC speakers? Headset is cool when alone, but when watching a movie with others, what'd you go for? Or should home cinema surround sound be used instead, through an amp etc?
This is opening a can of worms. Everything is relative to budget, content, who you're watching with, etc. I think for movies, Z-2300 type speakers are great. Boomy sub is great for this sort of thing.
I was strictly speaking in terms of sound quality, though.
Most these days would value bass over sound quality. Example if you've been listening to gangster rap on Z-2300's and you switch to audiophile reference headphones, you'll be missing that bass.![]()
Point taken. Pity to lump myself in with the peasants.I like a bit of bass. I've got some old Logitech 2.1's, not near quality (price!) of Z-2300, might be X-230's or something
I need some gaming earphones, I might spend some ZAR on those, then try some music on them, see if my ears can pick anything up...
Those Sennheisers look about right, but I'd need the equivalent with a boom mic.

I love my Z2300 - though in fairness I know f-all about PC sound and haven't heard much else
Agree on the bass though ; mine is turned right down
Z-4 are also EOL. I had them before my Z-2300.
