Does anyone have any online sources for the article in the Cape Times (was it?...) today, dealing with illegal RICA accesses and various other abuses of power and/or incompetence in the "South African Intelligence community". RICA warrant judges and MTN were mentioned....

Anyone? I'm struggling to find a mention anywhere but on paper.

Ah, here is another interpretation of the same issues, but it's missing some of the detail in the paper in terms of non-procedural access to cellphone communication and emails.

>> "A REPORT by Parliament’s security watchdog committee highlights how little oversight MPs have over what the intelligence budget is spent on and what spy bosses and the minister in charge of them do."

How about typing out the article so the rest of us can read it?

No.. But copying and crediting a story is not the same.

Does anyone else have this newspaper who might feel like typing out the story, I'm intrigued to read it

Ok, so the report basically deals with mismanagement in our Intelligence cluster...

This is not something we didn't know really... I'm not seeing why you need to go all mental about it?

Is the SSA and the police Crime Intelligence not 2 different entities?

You really describe the words I've written here "going all mental about it"?

Yes, the purpose of this account of mine here on MyBB is purely to point out the current and future plans for our open prison. And of course then, I'm going to jump on actual confirmations of the dangers I've been pointing out. Pointing out the challenges to private society caused by technology and human fallibilities is hardly "going mental".

EDIT: It makes me sad really, I rather enjoy your logic and reasoning in many unrelated posts I see here - I find myself agreeing with you a lot in other spheres, so I find it hard to reconcile your insistent bashing of my tinfoil hat.

Understand that I look at things from a different point of view.

I work in the IT sphere... I know the challenges involved in some of these things... I also know that our government is not even VAGUELY capable of mass monitoring of the population.. not even close.

The numbers presented in that damning report added up to about 4000 "surveillance requests" over the space of a year. There is no mention of how many unique people where surveiled.. it could be 4000, it could be 1000, it could be 2000. It also mentions the Police Intelligence service more than our National Security lot (CIA type creatures), so the majority of those requests would have been valid in relation to a criminal investigation, even if they didn't follow due process to get the surveillance data.
