I'm going to buy a ZALMAN CNPS9900 cooler for my AMD 965, but I noticed that there are two versions, one is pure copper and the other is nickel plated to prevent corrosion.
Should I be worried about the copper one corroding and buy the nickel version, which costs R80 more but has a green LED which will look odd with my other blue ones ???
Does anyone know if it will corrode quickly or in like 100 years. If anyone has any other great ideas for a CPU cooler let me know:)
 
I live at the coast. I have 2 large pure copper heatsinks here and one is a older Zalman that has been sitting here forever and there's no sign of any corrosion on them.

Better recommendation: Thermaltake TRUE. However, there is some Cooler Master or other heatsink that others have used which is a fraction of the cost and does the same job.
 
I've been looking around and saw a Cooler Master hyper 212 plus, is it any good. Most reviews seem positive.

Very good budget cooler, if not the best.

Not sure how it compares with the plain Hyper 212, but probably better with the direct touch heatpipes in the Plus version.
 
Not a big fan of the direct touch heatpipes. Too many gaps and the need to use too much thermal paste.

Well what ever you may think, they ARE proven tech, that the majority of companies are now using, so, ye, figure that one out for yourself. The very best coolers use HDT.
Good HDT designs have only tiny gaps that are actually used to direct excess paste away for better contact.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cools close to the very best, and at a fraction of the cost. Add a second fan and you've got top-tier air cooling.

I've had a CNPS9700 for over a year now. Copper. Never corroded, even after about 3 washes in a dishwasher. Just dry it propperly ;)

I dont think the nickel plated one is to prevent corrosion, its just to make it look better.
 
Zalman Flower

Using a 9300AT and that thing has cpu running between 19 and 28 degrees celcius. However, in a different case, I am using a 9900NT and cpu is running between 37 and 48 dregrees celcius.

First case is Antec 300 front to back airflow. Second case, 20cm side fan. Clearly affected by case airflow. Changing second case to Antec also, box already waiting for transplant.

Correct. It actually adds a layer and decreases cooling performance. Either way it's a not a very good cooler, not bad, but not good, and a very poor price to cooling ratio.
 
I have a Zalman 9300AT and it is too noisy for me. Looking to get a Cooler Master hyper 212 plus.
 
9900NT

Just finished last night migrating my box to an Antec 300. CPU now running between 26 and 30 degrees. Not passing 40degrees with games and a high of 42degrees while running prime.

Guess air flow pattern in the key with Zalman. Only running the two fans that come with the case on the back.

I read somewhere that a side fan doesnt help CPU cooling when using tower heatsinks, it messes with the air flow and caused higher CPU temps.
But the side case fans help plenty for GFX cards.

From my experience, the side fan was decoration. I added a blower under graphics card and that seemed to drop temprature of the motherboard mostly. Zero effect on the Graphics card. To be fair, when side fan was off completely the temperatures did go up on the CPU. You really need to work around your specific case and find what works.

That applies too to the graphics card. The type of cooler on it will determine if a side fan will complement it.

With mine, replacing it worked perfect.
