Harare - Zimbabwe's central bank on Friday introduced a Z$500m note, as the African country struggles to cope with the world's highest inflation and crippling currency shortages.

The half-billon note, worth about $10, was released together with a Z$200m bill, which the central bank said in a statement was introduced for the "convenience" of the public.

Finance minister Samuel Mumbengegwi announced the new bills in a government gazette, bringing to 29 the number of new notes put into circulation this year alone.

Just last Thursday, Zimbabwe introduced a Z$100m bill that at the time was worth $14. One week later, it's worth less than 50c.

Next week the first Billion $ note....

Any idea what an entry level pc costs there ?

A group of six car guards, have taken last week-ends earnings from their guarding of cars at Windermere shopping centre in Durban, and bought two buildings in up town Harare, this week. They are planning on starting a commercial banking group, dealing in property.

do everyday people actually use these notes? Surely they use South African notes or US dollars?

Didn't they sommer chop off a few zeros a few months ago? Your note is probably out of date by now. I think they're running into the problem that there aren't enough atoms in the universe to print Zimbabwean money on. :p

According to Wikipedia:

On July 30, 2008 the RBZ announced a new currency, effective August 1, 2008, removing 10 zeros from the monetary value, by "a factor of 1 to 10".

Banknotes valued at $10 million, $50 million and $100 million were issued as the withdrawal limit was increased to $100 million per week on December 4, 2008.[78][79] Scarcely two days later, on 6 December, the RBZ announced a $200 million banknote, to be issued the following week. (It was issued on 8 November.)[80] followed by a $500 million note on 12 December.[81] As of 12 December, the $500 million note was worth approximately US$8.[81]

Could that explain your note?

Darn I still got the original 50,20 and 10 Zimbabwean dollar notes from the time when the South African Rand was one to one to the Zimbabwean dollar.
