Zita Park update

Visited Sentech's "Broadband" shop in Menlyn this morning. Talked to the relatively honest lady about whether I should get a patch antenna, signals, etc.
She said I should not get an antenna, my signal strength from menlo Park was OK (15%).
She told me Zita would be opening in "weeks, rather than months". They were waiting for ICASA approval, something to do with voice as well as data transmission. I should rather wait for that, since I was less than 2km from there. She also said that by 2006, our speeds would be better as then with more towers, each would have a wider signal (Menlo was only 90 degrees now), and our modems would be able to switch "seamlessly" from 1 to another based on loads.
Sound reasonably promising?
 
I don't think Menlo is only 90 degrees. It might be reporting only 1 frequency, but it should still have 2 nodes. Check the first 3 posts here

I don't think more towers are going to give you better speeds. Local is running at full package speed already and ST already admitted that the international throttle is due to unfair bandwidth distribution.

Before you get yourself into a 12/24 month contract, rather try and get iBurst to tell you when the Menlo/CSIR tower is going live, as that should cover Zita nicely

/me thinks iBurst is going to move up the ratings a few notches, come the next edition. More towers, better speeds, better latency, etc. If ST lifts the throttle, I'll probably stay. The fact that I own the MyWi modem is a factor, but not the deciding one

Not just that, I still believe ST just does not have bandwidth at all. How many users did ST have a year ago? 1500? That was when bandwidth ran out and users started being randomly throttled to 4kB/s.

WBS is on ?4000 users, without a cap (so to speak) MUCH faster average throughput per modem, and yet nobody is being randomly throttled, which tells me that the network is still up for the challenge. (Except for some towers, and people with bad signal?)

sentech have been promising better speeds now for close to 9 months.
it sounds like lies to me.
 
Not just promising, they gave hundreds of "deadlines". Sure there was some improvement (for some people). But I dont think they are planning to give any performance any time soon. They just keep overselling the little bandwidth they have, until, uhhh "enough clients have joined"?? On the road to nowhere.

Hmmm, iBurst tower opening soon. Now about that cap.

Have i said this before?: The new superduper towers from 2006 will not make any speed difference. If however ST decides to buy a few megs of extra bandwidth... Hey, wait, they promised that too.. "contention ratios will be improved .." yadda yadda.
