Pietermaritzburg - Jacob Zuma's corruption trial was adjourned until September 5 after a short session at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday.

Judge Herbert Msimang did not accept state prosecutor Wim Trengove's assertion that it should be postponed till September 7 because colleague Anton Steynberg would be overseas at a conference.

"This matter we all know has an influence on our society. You say it must be held over because somebody is attending a conference abroad?" he asked disbelievingly.

Zuma left the court and went down to the crowd outside who erupted into song, jumping up and down to the song "Izinganizoma."

What stupid supporters. As if he cares about them. Nice role model for a potential future president. First rape charges, now corruption. But of course we all know this and support him.

It's like Tokyo Sexwale on SABC3 last night, regarding the Nelson Mandela Lecture, saying that people who say the government isn't doing anything, must "stand up" and go "wash cars". I am sure he'd like to go wash cars to support his lifestyle.

I'm worried about the fact that the prosecution asked for a delay...

They have had ages to get everything in order, what do they expect to find in the next 4 weeks that they could not find in the last 3 years???

"It is regrettable that this cannot proceed, we cannot understand this diversion. They had six years of investigation... it's crazy."
Zwelinzima Vavi.

The trial is a waste of time just like the rape trial...they should just drop the charges and let him start preparing for his presidential role. It's what the tribe wants...

this is nothing out of the ordinary. Chances are that there will be more delays in this case as it moves forward. This is all part of the process, and I believe the prosecution is quite well prepared - but they are still waiting for some further documents.

exactly - the state today applied for a postponement - probably because they want the Appeal Court in Bloem to finalise the two matters the Durban and Joburg courts ruled against them ( the 'illegal' raids )

The case was postponed to give them time to study the opposition to the application for a postponement -

So when Zuma goes back to court in September - they will be arguing whether to postpone the case or not
