Deputy Chairman of the South African Institute of International Affairs, Moeletsi Mbeki says President Jacob Zuma is adding to the problems facing the African National Congress (ANC).

Brother to former President Thabo Mbeki, the political analyst says this year is a crucial year for South Africa, gearing up for Local Government Elections.

Mbeki says 2015 saw tempers flare in Parliament and across the political spectrum and he believes the issues will persist in the new year.

Mbeki says the ANC holds a comfortable majority in government, but warns that for the first time it's now seeing wide-spread demonstrations for calls to have the president removed.
He was making reference to the ‘Zuma Must Fall’ campaign, which saw thousands of South Africans take to the streets late last year.

Mbeki says he doesn't think the demonstrations will lead to Zuma resigning.
“He has never been a bright shining star in the ANC, so he’s adding to these problems by his own activities.”

He says this year is an opportunity for opposition parties to capitalise on the ANC’s lost votes.

This is just f'ing ignorance. Seriously. Go read up about Moeletsi Mbeki. One of the greatest injustices in the country is that it was Thabo and not Moeletsi who became president.

South Africa would be an absolute powerhouse if Moeletsi, who is a brilliant man, had the reigns.
 
Not the brightest star but the ultimate survivor. Knowing how to form alliances, manipulate them, get rid of foes and get the votes.

Whenever Moeletsi speaks I listen. Fellow forumites would benefit greatly from reading more of Moeletsi's opinion pieces.

It's such a pity he never took the reins at the ANC.

Exactly what people said about Thabo Mbeki before he got a taste of power.

As for Zuma he got plenty of acclaim for his efforts during the peace negotions in Natal. Hardly this nobody who usurped his way to power out of nowhere.

Of course history has to be rewritten to save face....

So, what was your point? Because all I got out of that is either you don't know the difference between the Mbeki brothers or you think he is just some ANC crony.

You could say the very same of the good Dr Ramphela and look what a disaster she turned out to be as a politician. Being a good analyst doesn't automatically translate into a good politician. Moeletsi isn't critical of BEE yet hypocritically benefits from the same

He can't really be so clever if he still believes the ANC will be his saviour.
