President Jacob Zuma has given his first public reaction to the ongoing student protests.
In a statement issued by the presidency, Zuma will meet with management of universities and student leaders on Friday to discuss the stalemate with regards to tuition fee increases.
Students marched to Parliament as part of the #FeesMustFall Campaign which is sweeping South African universities.
Zuma says government fully understands the pressure and difficulties that students face regarding high university.
The Presidency's Bongani Majola said, “The president reiterated that has government fully understands pressure and difficulties that students coming from poor households and the working class face.”
The consultative meetings will convene at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Zuma aims to find a solution to the impasse.
